Or you could take a transformational class like the Dragon Disciple to eventually become a half-dragon, providing you meet the requirements...

1) Be a human (or any other LA +0 thing, any base class) for your first level. Take the 1st (+0 LA) 'level' in the Draconic Racial Progression (in the chapter on Half-Dragons and Draconic characters).
2) Become a dragonborn before level 2.
3) Take the 2nd (LA+1) 'level' in the Draconic Racial Progression.
You now have a Draconic dragonborn.

But, also, going from Draconic human to Draconic Dragonborn is sanctioned. Because:
I) You keep your LA (and HD).
II) Therefore, you keep all abilities tied to that LA (otherwise you just hosed yourself out of at least 1 level). (Note: you will need to houserule this, because the text specifically states otherwise. This is just stupid, and probably something the Sage has ruled on.)

aside: Why in the name of all that is holy (and not) would WoTC release a product with a race that says: "Keep your racial HD (and associated benefits, such as saves)." AND "Lose all racial bonuses (saves, etc.)." ??? Oh yes, it is WoTC, where (apparently) all game-development & design decisions are made by Kronk, the feebleminded ogre.

The Dragonborn template/race can be thought of as overriding a LA +0 race. I would recommend treating it likewise. (IE, Half-Dragon Kobold would become a Half-Dragon Dragonborn.) If the original base race grants HD, subtract the equivalent of a human's abilities from the creature (IE, a lizardfolk might lose +1 natural armor (going from +5 to +4), as well as treating its intelligence as being 2 points lower than it actual is for the purpose of determining skill points).

10-14-07, 11:56 AM I remember that templates are not eliminated by the dragon born process. But simply saying its a racial progression. It is in flavor of the race and as a GM I would allow it.
