Hey, everyone - long time no post. Is there any chance I could get a quick check of the Level Adjustment of this elf mod? I currently have them at LA +1; do you think they're worth an LA +2 as posted? (I'm going off the Drow for comparison). Thanks. They're called the Erilarion, also known as polar elves.

Erilarion Traits (Ex): These traits are in addition to the high elf traits, except where noted.

- Draconic Heritage: Polar elves automatically receive the Draconic Heritage feat detailed on pages 102-103 of Races of the Dragon, even if they do not meet the prerequisites. They gain the Knowledge (arcana) skill as a class skill, regardless of their class. They also gain a bonus equal to the number of draconic feats they have on saves against paralysis effects and against spells and abilities with the Cold descriptor. Polar elves automatically receive the Erilarion heritage, detailed below. They cannot change their heritage through the Rite of Draconic Affinity. See pg. 102, Races of the Dragon, “Draconic Feats,” for further details.
- Erilarion who take a spellcasting class that utilizes arcane magic gain an additional bonus spell per level. This stacks with any bonus spells gained from ability modifiers.
- Favored Class: Sorcerer. This trait replaces the high elf’s favored class.
- Level adjustment: +1.

Heritage: Erilarion
Descriptor or Subschool: Cold
Class Skill: Knowledge (arcana)
Spells Known: Endure elements (cold environments only), gust of wind, cone of cold.

Edit (6/20/2007) - I should probably also mention - I need this LA thing figured out by Tuesday.

Like the edit says, I kind of need this thing ironed out for a session on Tuesday. Can anyone give me a hand?

Hmm...before I actually read it, I was jsut gonna say take the Draconic template, but now that I've read it, I'd say LA +1

Are you talking about a bonus spell to Spells Known, or a bonus spell to Spells per Day? I also note that you do not gain extra Spells Known due to ability modifiers, but you do gain extra Spells per Day due to ability modifiers.

I meant spells per day. Will clear that up.

I give it a mixed LA.

An arcane caster playing this race should have an LA of +1.

Anyone else should have an LA of +0.

This could get complicated if several players wanted to use this race to play different classes, but unfortunately that's the way it breaks down, imo-nonarcane casters have almost no benefit from the race over regular elves, but char's who are arcane casters gain a healthy bonus.

For consistancies sake I guess you could just make them +1 across the board and fie on anyone dumb enough to use one as a barbarian.

Unfortunately I don't have Races of the Dragon, so I don't know how Draconic Heritage helps anyone.

Unfortunately I don't have Races of the Dragon, so I don't know how Draconic Heritage helps anyone.

It's basically a feat that does as described; plus it grants access to the other Draconic Heritage feats (provided the character has at least 1 level of Sorcerer). So they get the benefits of an additional feat, plus access to a tree of relatively powerful feats.

And keep in mind that they get this in addition to all the other elf stuff, which is - in my opinion, anyway - pretty close to LA +1 as is.

Thanks for your help, everyone. Appreciate the confirmation.

Hmm... I'm confused... that last little bit, are you saying they have those three spells as known above and beyond their known spell list?

At base level 1 Sorcerer with no further draconic feats, you would have +1 to all saves vs. Paralysis and spells with the Cold Descriptor. This is above and beyond the bonuses and immunities that Elves get in general. You also get a skill on your class list for free, although this is redundant with the Sorcerer as it already has Knowledge (arcana) on their class skill list.

Then you essentially gain one extra use per day per spell level above and beyond what you would normally get.

I'd say EASILY +1 LA. Probably not +2 though, as you don't get free innate spells per day and you don't get SR. But Easily +1 LA.

Basically, but only if they take Draconic Legacy, another draconic feat in Races of the Dragon. If that's the case, they get those added to their Spells Known for free. That's about it, unless I'm remembering incorrectly.
