| Kadasbrass02-21-07, 12:37 PM | Have you read the full thing? You also lose pretty much all existing racial traits too in favor of the new ones. |
| runestar02-21-07, 12:39 PM | You win some, you lose some with the template. Now, only thing is to find a race which lets you win more than you lose. Warforged comes to mind...:P |
| NerdNumber102-21-07, 12:46 PM | It isn't realy a template, it changes your entire race. You lose most, if not all, of your racial traits. |
| Demetri_Knighthawk02-21-07, 01:11 PM | hmm perhaps I had origionaly missread it, somehow I thought it says "retains origional" often in a lot of the racial abilities, the only place it removes or replaces is human skill points and human 1st level feat/ racial feats are lost. |
| Shedeo02-21-07, 01:19 PM | And the Dwarf's ability to move in heavy armor. And all sorts of other stuff. All in all, its pretty cool. The wings/breathweapon/whatever that other one was are all really handy as well, but no. Its not really that broken. I once had an Elven Monk in my game, but the player (who's in love with dragons) decided that she'd become a Dragonborn. I let her reroll her character as a Druid and voila. She became a Dragonborn druid (instead of monk) as part of her transformation as well. Good thing, too, since she had the blessing of Bahamut. |

Warforged comes to mind...:P Warforged are a great choice. Especially when you consider that, despite the lose of their composite armor, they are still capable of taking feats that improve Natural Armor bonuses. |
| Yalon02-21-07, 05:15 PM | Orc Dragonborn rawk the hizouse. Verily. |
| runestar02-21-07, 10:36 PM | Warforged are a great choice. Especially when you consider that, despite the lose of their composite armor, they are still capable of taking feats that improve Natural Armor bonuses. They retain their living construct subtype, which lets them keep most of their immunities and resistances. If you are going to be taking one of their armoured body feats, who cares if you retain your composite plating? And if you are going to play a wizard, then losing your plating is actually a blessing in disguise, since you don't have to spend a feat to rid yourself of it.:) |
| Templario02-22-07, 08:54 AM | Don't forget all of the RP issues: kills evil dragons, kills evil dragons, kills evil dragons. And you woun't have time for passion and children, what (to me) increases dramatically the historyline and gives you a future character (the son/daughter of your current one :D ). But for a very focused campaign (Dragonfall Wars, etc) the "template" is superb. |
| runestar02-22-07, 09:10 AM | What's wrong with fighting evil dragons with your child strapped to your back?:P He can even contribute with the occasional flinging of poop to the dragon's eye... |
| Derren S.02-22-07, 09:23 AM | As dragonborn are sterile, passion and child are not much of an issue. |
| Banatine02-22-07, 09:44 AM | We've always houseruled that dragonborn can do what they please when it comes to that kind of thing. We also rule that they don't become reborn in mind as well as body. changing into what amounts to a paladin isn't very good. The condition for keeping your memory however was to wear a platinum ring during the rite. |
| Richmud02-22-07, 02:50 PM | I don't believe there is normally any memory loss (well except for the racial abilities that come from training) from this transformation. You would retain all class levels, feats, skills, ect. that weren't a racial bonus of some sort |
| grodech02-28-07, 07:32 PM | It appears that the template can be taken any time, even if you already have class levels. I wonder if any previous hit dice count towards your abilities with relation to hit dice, or if you only count those you gain after the transformation (e.g. breath weapon). I was also wondering if you started as a race with an LA, do you still have an LA after the transformation. I haven't seen any FAQs regarding dragonborn - anyone know of one? |
| Richmud02-28-07, 08:42 PM | I wonder if any previous hit dice count towards your abilities with relation to hit dice, or if you only count those you gain after the transformation (e.g. breath weapon). Yes all your HD count for its abilities I was also wondering if you started as a race with an LA, do you still have an LA after the transformation. I believe the book states that you retain any LA you have, which can really suck but is a necessary rule as there is no easy way to determine if the LA of a race comes from one the features you retain. I haven't seen any FAQs regarding dragonborn - anyone know of one? I am not aware of any |

I must have missed that. Thanks. I am not aware of any Well I guess this counts as one, but it was a pain to find. |
| AZNsupermarket03-01-07, 12:22 AM | +2 con -2 dex key benifits and abilities only pre-requisite is 2 days alone time and 100 gp is it me or does this seem a smidgen broken? Only if you try to become a dragonborn elven sub-race. That is veering on the broken territory. |
| zook1shoe66603-01-07, 12:32 AM | As dragonborn are sterile, passion and child are not much of an issue. who said it was after the char became a Dragonborn ;) |
| KurenaiYami03-01-07, 07:00 AM | I'm a big fan of Mongrelfolk Dragonborn myself. +0 race with +6 Con? I smell a Barbarian. |
| AZNsupermarket03-01-07, 07:27 AM | I'm a big fan of Mongrelfolk Dragonborn myself. +0 race with +6 Con? I smell a Barbarian. that works pretty well too. |
| DS03-01-07, 12:21 PM | +2 con -2 dex key benifits and abilities only pre-requisite is 2 days alone time and 100 gp is it me or does this seem a smidgen broken? Your standards on broken should be revised. RoD gave us the venerable dragonwrought kobold. A dragonborn couldn't compete with that even if it didn't wipe out most of the previous races abilities. |
| Edo_55503-01-07, 12:25 PM | +2 con -2 dex key benifits and abilities only pre-requisite is 2 days alone time and 100 gp is it me or does this seem a smidgen broken? Covered with scales;) At least looking at stats. |
