I recently acquired Races of the Dragon, and I was appalled by the blatant alignmentism in the Dragonborn of Bahamut character option.

In my current campaign, I've got an evil sorceror who worships Tiamat. He's been taking all the Draconic Heritage feats, he's joined a cult/gang, and this Dragonborn thing looks like a great "ultimate reward." But, the book only talks about the Bahamut version :yuck:
Of course, it's easy to adapt. Most of it is just changing the name and the colors. In fact, looking through it, I can't see anything that needs to be changed except the flavor.

So, is there anything I'm missing? Or can I just cut and paste with no ill effects flavor-wise?

The dragonborn are chosen by Bahamut himself, and they become dragonborn voluntarily. That is the way of good; forsaking what you hold dear for the sake of good. The spawn of Tiamat are perverted while they are in their eggs (for as far as I know), and they come into the world as they are, as thralls of Tiamat. That is the way of evil; perverting what you need for the sake of evil. I know that I don't know much of the alignments, but that is how Bahamut and Tiamat fight their wars; the one through chosen ones of free will, the other through thralls.

However, you might want to consider the dragon disciple prestige class, perhaps editing it to reflect more of the way of Tiamat. Perhaps you can do more with the five-headed aspect of Tiamat, like rolling a die to determine which breath weapon you can use.

Of course, you can also take the dragonborn 'race' and edit it to reflect Tiamat's ways, although I think that it would look rather awkward. I personally don't think that becoming a thrall of Tiamat would be a choice on behalf of the character. It's more like Tiamat says: "Let me make an offer you can't refuse." (Please do note that I in no way see Tiamat as a gangster. Let's just keep that clear.)

I don't have Races of the Dragon but aren't the Dragonborn Bahamut's response the the Spawn of Tiamat? So having Dragonborn from Tiamat would be cosmicaly unbalencing, that said unless there is some ability of the Dragonborn that is Bahamut specific nothing is stoping you.

The dragonborn aren't intended to be appearing on both sides of the equation, so while you could do it, it's very much off-theme. Tiamat is creating the various spawn - the whole "(color)spawn whatever" series of creatures. The dragonborn are Bahamut's answer to this, so of course they're themed to Bahamut (and wouldn't make a lot of sense as Tiamat-style minions).

I have always used Dragonborn as exactly the kind of thing that you think they should be.

IMC becoming a Dragonborn requires only an Adult Dragon willing to perform the ritual, and it is something that nearly all dragons know with their vast knowledge of history and arcana. Your alignment needs to be at the least within one step of the Dragon you're recieving the blessing from.

However, this is, again, IMC, where Dragonspawn come from. Bahamut attempted to bless his most loyal followers with the power to destroy the servants of his sister. Tiamat attempted to duplicate the process, and Bahamut used his power to try and stop her. The process ended up flawed, but still works about 50% of the time when recieving it from a dragon of Tiamat.

Even then, you'd best have some kind of knowledge or insurance that the dragon won't screw you over. They are evil, after all, and could opt for the process to fail completely, turning the target into a Dragonspawn rather than a Dragonborn.

Tiamat.
Chromatic Dragons.
Divinely mutated dragon Tiamat things.
Whole books on mutated dragon Tiamat things and dragons, dragons, dragons...

It's like the whole D&D dragon-junk continuum just keeps commiting incest. :weep:

And good idea Mizik, Breaded Dragons would be delicious. Especially with peanut butter.
Almost as good as chopped halfling with curry, or kobold kabobs.
