| Radijs06-06-07, 07:16 AM | Maybe I'm wrong but does the dragonspawn template seem a tad powerful for its level adjustment? Especially the white dragonspawn which gives not only +2 on dex and con, but also grants, a breath weapon, natural weapons, fly speed, +7 natural armor and a full sorceror caster level for a mere 1 LA? Ok there is a weakness that you gain the cold subtype but still it seems an awful lot. Am I alone in thinking this or is the template rather powerful? |
| Babzidu06-06-07, 12:19 PM | Well, you're right, but I don't think the dragonspawn were meant to be played as characters. You know, slaves to evil mountain range-sized alien dragon overlords and all that. |
| Borris06-06-07, 10:22 PM | Among D&D players on the CO boards, White Dragonspawn is semi-officially recognized as one of the three most broken +1 LA templates (along with Feral and Half-minotaur). I don't see why a player would want to play a dragpnspawn character, but assuming it fits in the campaign, I would only let it go for a +3 LA. |
| Kraven_Redcloak06-07-07, 05:45 PM | Personally I think that most of the creatures in Dragonlance were either a little far out or under played (their dragons sucked). The Draconians were probably about the best thing that came from that world. The Dragonspawn remind me too much of the Spawn of Tiamat, the only real difference is the method of creation between the two. They do seem a bit powerful but don't forget to take into consideration of what they are and are supposed to be. Still I suppose it depends more on the DM then anything. |
| Radijs06-07-07, 06:43 PM | I was thinking of taking the template for a character. I haven't consulted the DM yet but beforehand I was thinking of removing just about everything from the template save the ability score enhancements and the caster level. |
| bigsnarf06-07-07, 07:27 PM | Why not try playing a Baaz or another draconian. |
| Radijs06-07-07, 07:52 PM | Honestly: Because of the cheese. In the campaign another player was given permission to use *shudder* mongoose publishing and I need to keep up. An extra sorceror level will help with that. Especially since we're allowed LA buyoff. |

Yeah, you are correct that is a little cheap for a LA +1 Adjustment. Flight is +1 LA The abilities I would consider that unbalanced +1 LA (maybe a -2 to Str would lower that to 0LA) Breath weapon 0-1 LA (+1 LA if its a breath weapon that recharges 1d4 rounds every use.) +7 Natural Armor (+2 LA anynat armor over 5) The natural attacks +0 LA (i can justify that with the natural armor) Now i dunno about the sorceror level, is is just a +1 to caster level or does this give you a full level in spellcasting as well? (if spellcasting is raised definite +1LA) This would be 4-6 LA give or take some things in my opinion. |
| jubjubdestroyer06-14-07, 05:03 PM | The la is only in comparison to the other dragonspawn. As a DM, you you are only supposed to allow the use of any of the dragonspawn in a campain where the players work for a dragon lord. As a player, you are only supposed to play a dragonspawn if your DM allows it. If you really want to play one (of any color) talk to your DM about being a spy in the group, all you need is a ring of non-detection, and you can present yourself as a renegade. |
