Anyone know which sourcebook has information on this? I have the FR Underdark sourcebook, which has really nothing on driders, and the MM which has the LA. Stat adjustments, feats, things like that I'd like to know. Is there more out there?

Thanks

Nothing I am aware of. Just break down the MM entry.

Ah, that sucks. What do you think about stat adjustments?

Original 6hd
Str 15, Dex 15, Con 16, Int 15, Wis 16, Cha 16

I think there should be a -1 to a stat in here for the +1 stat you gain per 4 levels.
Str +4, Dex +4, Con +6, Int +4, Wis +6, Cha +6

That makes sense, thanks. Anything else you would add? I was told elsewhere the tauric template, p. 217 MM2, would also be a good source for a drider PC. What do you think?

Abberation
6d8 HD
Cleric BAB
Good Will
2 + Int skill points: Climb, Concentration, Hide, Listen, Move Silently & Spot

Large: -1s and +4s to the usual

30 ft land speed, 15 ft climb
+6 natural armor
natural attack: bite 1d4+poison
10 ft face, 5 ft reach
Poison (Ex): Injury, initial and secondary damage 1d6 Str. The save DC = 1/2 HD + Con.

Spell-Like Abilities: 1/day—dancing lights clairaudience/clairvoyance, darkness, detect good, detect law, detect magic, dispel magic, faerie fire, levitate, suggestion. Caster level 6th. The save DC = spell level + Cha.

Spells: Driders cast spells as 6th-level clerics, wizards, or sorcerers. Drider clerics can choose from the following domains: Chaos, Destruction, Evil, and Trickery.

Skills: A drider has a +4 racial bonus on Hide and Move Silently checks. It has a +8 racial bonus on Climb checks and can always choose to take 10 on a Climb check, even if rushed or threatened.

Darkvision 60 ft

Base Spell Resistance is 17. I'm unsure how this advances.

Str +4, Dex +4, Con +6, Int +4, Wis, +6, Cha +6

LA +4

Did I miss anything? Thats all from SRD.

Not needed, since monster progressions do not get the +1 stat boost for racial HD they already possess, since it is already considered as factored into their existing stat modifiers.:)

Does that mean that a PC creating the character doesn't add a level 4 point?

That is how I would play it, though I admit that I do not find anything overpowering about allowing it.

For example, look at the classed npcs in the MM, such as the ogre barb. After reverse-engineering its stats with the elite array, it is clear that it gets just 1 stat boost for its 8th HD (from its 4th lv of barb). It did not get anything from its 4th giant HD.

Are you certain? And I would like a reference as I play a Minotaur in a campaign (and started him from 1st Hit Die) and my dm and I had a debate on this issue...I conceded to his rule, no level 4 stat point, but I would like a rule if there is one....I sleep better at night. :)

Savage Species Pg. 163 - Drider Monster Class table

I noticed that the MM Drider had 3 even ability scores and 3 odd. Seems - to me - to suggest that the point was not added in.

Also, in SS page15, there is a tiny clause under the section "lv dependent benefits" which states something along the line of
This table shows any ability score increases or additional feats that will result from adding class levels to your monster’s Hit Dice.

Which suggests that your base racial HD alone do not cut it.:P

I would just give skillpoints, saving throws, spells and spell-like abilities in the aberration levels as sorcerer like levels, and almost all the rest goes into a LA + 4 like template.

The base race would be somethig like this:

Aberration type
bonus to two attributes and penalty to one
Medium '30
Darkvision 60

-The penalty to an attribute is removed after some levels in Drider class.
- Drider becomes large after some levels in Drider class

Compare creature against Human Sorcerer or Human rogue.

Ummmm.... Actually all the stat bonuses are even. 3 are 6s and 3 are 4s.

The savage species handbook has a drider progression. 1st few lvs are great (almost like playing a LA+0 drow spellcaster), but once LA kicks in...:(

Yeah, I found this.

What I ended up doing was doing both a race with a +4LA as per the MM and treating the drider as a drow prestige class (like you have to be transformed into a drider to be eligible to take the class) as per the Savage Species.

Here, check it out:

This is for Neverwinter Nights 2. I didn't do the models FYI.

Basically I wasn't sure which one people would be more likely to use, I know persistant worlds may have a problem with level one characters with such a big stat bonus at level 1 despite the LA, so I made both available.

Thanks everyone for the help.

I was referencing the monster entry in MM.
