Drow Counterpart? [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-22-07, 12:47 AM Suppose that the the Couatl and the Rakshasa are "opposites" in terms of D&D. They are both CR 10 monsters, outsider type, comparable powers. One is lawful good the other is lawful evil. I was wondering what would be the opposite of the Drow given similar criterion? What fills the Drow D&D mechanics niche but is not a Drow?

That or Avariel. Winged(AKA special abilities), LA, etc.

But in general, tho, nothing. Drow were already kinda the 'evil elf variant', they just tacked on special abilities to give them that 'evil&darkness' feel. So they already have it, as a regular elf.

Maybe you should design something, if you feel there should be something like that. Good luck trying to justify it, there's a lot of folks who see Drow as useless whiners, and just don't like elf subraces in general.

(I can take or leave 'em, but generally prefer only gross physical changes. Wings, aquatics, maybe a 'spritely' small variant. Special abilities should be what changes by subrace, not racial mods. Ah well, 4e is just around the bend with joys and horrors for all to behold.)

09-22-07, 04:58 PM Use the Aasimar stats and fluff it out as an elven subrace. Lower CR, but seem fairly opposite.

09-23-07, 01:22 PM A dwarf with +2 LA. Say, a mineral warrior draconic dwarf. Now they moved drow to NE so they're not as fun, but still they're quite different from dwarves.

Can someon link me to all this? All this eladrin stuff is being thrown around, and beyond the one-word reference in the Elves article I haven't seen it.
