Okay, MM3.5 says that they are a +2 level adjustment for a character, but the "drow of the underdark" i belive says +1 for PCs. What is it?

Go for +2 unless you're running a high powered game.

Personally I think of them as +1 and tieflings as +0, but then again I always have gesalt characters so...

If you don't want the LA there is a racial progression I recently found a link to:

That racial progression would be replaced by the drow racial class in the Drow of the Underdark on page 220.

I don't understand but I don't have that book either, so, I suppose that's why...

You can always follow the idea of the Player's Guide to FR, and removes - changes some things to drop down some races to LA 0, like drow. They offered ideas for LA, 'lesser' drow, duergars, svirfneblins, genasis, aasimars and tieflings.

Is that why it doesn't list an LA...? I always thought they were just not listing it and referring certain racial specifics to other books, like you have in Races of Faerun when they don't list LA among other things... I'm extremely interested if this is completely true!

They present two ways to soften LA races - the racial class (levels?) feature as suggested, and the LA-adjusted versions with changed stats stuff.

Basicaly, as I said, the second option is LA 0 versions of common LA races with the LA-giving powers and bonus chopped off and so on. 'Lesser' drow, duergars, etc...

They seem to work fine for me, but maybe normal and 'lesser' races could exist together if you had a 'noble line' thing maybe.

I checked out PGtF, I had never noticed those lesser races in the back, thanks.

You might be thinking of the part under Challenge Rating: Drow with levels in NPC classes have a CR equal to their character level. Drow with levels in PC classes have a CR equal to their character level +1.
