They are listed in the SRD (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/elf.htm#drow), and also the Monster Manual

Drow Traits (Ex)
These traits are in addition to the high elf traits, except where noted.

+2 Intelligence, +2 Charisma.
Darkvision out to 120 feet. This trait replaces the high elf’s low-light vision.
Spell resistance equal to 11 + class levels.
+2 racial bonus on Will saves against spells and spell-like abilities.
Spell-Like Abilities: Drow can use the following spell-like abilities once per day: dancing lights, darkness, faerie fire. Caster level equals the drow’s class levels.
Weapon Proficiency: A drow is automatically proficient with the hand crossbow, the rapier, and the short sword. This trait replaces the high elf’s weapon proficiency.
Automatic Languages: Common, Elven, Undercommon. Bonus Languages: Abyssal, Aquan, Draconic, Drow Sign Language, Gnome, Goblin. This trait replaces the high elf’s automatic and bonus languages.
Light Blindness: Abrupt exposure to bright light (such as sunlight or a daylight spell) blinds drow for 1 round. On subsequent rounds, they are dazzled as long as they remain in the affected area.
Favored Class: Wizard (male) or cleric (female). This trait replaces the high elf’s favored class.
Level adjustment +2.

Hope that helps :)

Note that because those stats are in addition to the high elf stats, your racial ability mods will be +2 Dex, -2 Con, +2 Int, +2 Cha.

They're in the MM, also here in the SRD
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/elf.htm#drow

Drows don't make great fighters honestly, they are always behind on BAB and hitpoints. Improved toughness helps, but they make muck better rogues and scouts with occasional dips into fighter.

Drow of the Underdark may also help. It has info. on drow without any level adjustment.

Sounds very interesting. Can you tell more without breaking CoC?

It is called Drow Racial class. The drow slowly gets the abilities over several levels. You can find it on page 220 of the Drow of the Underdark.

Really. I thought they ended up to be an ordinary drow.
Though I'm not surprised either, because these stats are more the 3 years old (before 3.5E IIRC).

Player's Guide to Faerun covers bringing powerful races back to LA 0 in its expanded rules section. Basically you are looking at normal elves with a few extra abilities (and light blindness :P ), the best of which is the +2 to will saves of the original.

Nah, don't do the idiot, everyone seem to love Drizzt!
I hate them, they where the cause of my first D&D death!

Um ok Drizzt was a ranger I want to make a fighter or maybe a rogue. So no Im not making a Drizzt copy. That would be lame. I want to use the drow because I am reading this six-part series by R.A. Salvatore (War of the Spider Queen) and I just like the race. The character I plan on making is a Dwarf Cleric.

Tip: There is a feat in Player's Guide to Faerun (Daylight Adaption, p. 37) that must be taken on 1st level and that removes your light sensitivity. (If you play in Forgotten Realms.)

There are also a couple of feats to gain additional spells such as levitation and such, for Noble Drow in Races of Faerun: Highborn Drow (Levitate, Detect Magic, Detect Good 1/day; p. 164), Improved Levitation (divides up levitation use in 10 minute pieces over a day; p. 165) and Llolth's blessing if you are a level 5+ Cleric or Llolth (clairaudience/clairvoyance, Detect lies, Dispel Magic & Suggestion 1/day).

There are probably new versions and other nice stuff in Drow of the Underdark, but I do not got access to that book.

This conversation here is hilarious, I will try to make room for this and sig it.

Also, drow can make a good of almost anything I'm sure, that SR allows them to fight spellcasters after all.

For the record, the last statted form of Drizzt I saw was in the 3.0 Player's Guide to Faerun. In it, he had 10 levels of fighter and something like 4 of ranger * oh, and 1 of barbarian - mind you, all of these has a good reason to be there, given his story. He calls himself a ranger, is referred to as a ranger and is quite proficient in woodcraft, but that does not mean he is your typical ranger or does not have a splattering of other levels.

Drow obviously make great casters/manifesters of any class where Int or Cha are the primary casting/manifesting ability score (sorcerers, psions, wizards etc).

I find they make quite nifty chaos monks, but that's as NPC's.

They are not good as primary spellcaster because of the loss of two levels.
They are not good as frontline warriors because lose 2 from bab and two levels of hit points, and on top of that, they have -2 Con.
They are not good as archers either, because the +2 to Dex does not compensate the -2 to bab.
That leaves rogue-type characters. They aren't too bad as them, but they are clearly worse than halflings or even a goblins.

The drow have very little going for them from a mechanical standpoint. Their ability increases are scattered into 3 stats that do not mesh very well, and the -2 Con hurts them in all classes. The spell-like abilities are a joke. The save bonus and 120' darkvision are okay, but are not worth one level, and barely make up for light blindness.

The only thing they have that might be worth LA+1 is the SR, which may save their butts now and then, but it is not a reliable ability and makes healing or buffing them during combat iffy.

All in all they are pretty weak for a LA+2 race.

Well our group uses the LA buy off rules, so we've found the LA +2 is worth it for the drow goodies.

That could be cool in the long haul. Still, I guess you have to survive until about sixth level or so to really begin catching up.

Their SR also makes the decent arcane casters. Being weak (combination of LA and d4 hit dice), a drow caster will tend to shy from melee anyway. This will probably expose the drow to more spells. Of course, this doesn't help much against most Conjuration spells and arrows! :P

The thing is, in the current Planescape campaign I'm running, the drow psion is still 2 levels behind the rest of the party (CL 12), but he still ganks massive amounts of booty.

Weird. Normally, psions (with their proportionally increasing PPs) would not be my first choice for drow characters. No wizards or the like to upstage him?

Why, what with their +2 to Int, they are an obvious choice for psion?
The_Shaman

07-24-07, 11:48 AM
+2 int means 10 extra PP over 20 levels. 2 levels of psion, especially at the end, net you more than enough for that AND the augments for the +1 to DC, plus a few more powers. They are okay psions if give them LA buy-out, but without it they are not that great. I would prefer a grey elf, to be honest. -2 to strength is not such a big deal, especially if you have enough dexterity to need no more than a mithral chain shirt.

Strangely enough, I think drow make rather successful bards - bardic casting progression tends to be a bit more forgiving of a level or two, and the intelligence and dexterity bonus both come useful.

Well, yes, everyone knows about the glory-holing grey elf for Int based characters.

CG drows are okay, just as long as they have their own personality. Me, I find the cultists of the Dark Maiden a lot less bland than, say, some halfling sects. Drizzt, though, could get almost unbearably too-holy-for-my-tastes, and I do not really dig the emo-depreciating part. Then again, anti-heroes apparently weren't all the rage back when Salvatore started the saga.

Note: yeah, the planetouched incarnates seem quite nice. I consider it at least partially a bit of a payback for the shabby deal for their level adjustment.
