| Quandi12-12-07, 01:22 AM | Well its pretty straight forward, i need suggestions that wil help me either in terms of mechanics or flavor, i can take form anywhere so if u know of something from say a dragon magazine feel free to post that too. The best thing im looking for though is a kinda fey/elf middle ground, something like in this pic http://sandara.deviantart.com/art/Forest-Shaman-66212376 |
| Stockvillain12-12-07, 01:26 AM | I'm not a big fan of the race, but the Killoren from Races of the Wild makes for a perty decent druid, plus they're plants [sorta], so they're pretty darned exotic, too. |
| larry_the_titan12-12-07, 08:19 AM | As Stockvillain said, Killoren are excellent druids. The picture in that book doesn't do them justice. But they are not Plants they are Fey. They may be green some of the time but they are not plants. You can talk to your DM if you want to reflavor them but do me a favor don't make them into another form of elf. It is a common theme on the boards that a few posters have done. The Race needs more respect then that. |
| Quandi12-12-07, 10:17 AM | well i only mentioned elves because i still think of them as having an affinity for the froest and plants and what not, and that lithe build that my character concept is going for, on a side note can u guys recommend races a with a wis bonus, besides buommons |
| The_Shaman12-12-07, 10:55 AM | I think the old Vanara (OA) had a wisdom bonus. Apart from that, I don't know of any without LA... There may be something in the more exotic settings or Dragon/Dungeon magazine, though. |
| NalarTheQuestioner12-12-07, 12:31 PM | I might also suggest the shifter or goatmen (from the MMIII). The goatmen are evil, but that could be reworked w/your DM, particularly if they're not a regular feature in your campaign yet. Maybe as a neutral counter-race to gnolls? Anyway, I hope I won't get into trouble for making this comparison, but if you go the goatmen route I'd suggest you take a glance at Warhammer's Beastmen for illustration ideas and the like. The MMIII also has the...cripes, some kind of plant-infused template type race that's somewhat similar to the end result of the Verdant Lord PrC from Masters of the Wild. You might take a peek at that too. Gnolls or a lupine variant might be another idea. |
| Consul Vido12-12-07, 01:48 PM | The plant template in MMIII is called Woodling. It gives you natural armor, a slam attack, some spell-like abilities and a vulnerability to flame, in addition to plant traits and some other things I'm probably forgetting. Edit: LA is +3. |
| HernetheHunter12-12-07, 03:17 PM | Well if the Killoren doesn't do it for you and you don't mind the LA you could try the Adu'ja from Dragon 317. There are some third party materials that may help as well. |
| larry_the_titan12-12-07, 04:31 PM | Anthropomorphic Bat have no LA and no 1 Racial HD. If your DM will approve it you will have a +6 wis. If not good luck getting that Wisdom bonus. |
| Talisman12-12-07, 05:05 PM | Check the Project Feybook link in my sig...we've got a couple of druid-quality PC fey there you might like. Aasimar are good for the Wisdom bonus...just rewrite the fluff to make them eladrin-descended instead of lawful-celestial-descended, and therefore more elflike/feylike. From Dragon Celadrin (elf/eladrin planetouched), #350 Changeling (non-Eberron; fey-touched), #304 Gruwaar (dark, shifty fey), #317 |
| zook1shoe66612-12-07, 09:35 PM | Dragonwrought Kobolds and Lesser Aasimar are among the most powerful Druid races avail. other than power, the Tibbit (DragC), the Grippli (DragC), the Jermlaine (MM2), and the Hengeyokai (OA) make some interesting druid ideas. I think the old Vanara (OA) had a wisdom bonus. Apart from that, I don't know of any without LA... There may be something in the more exotic settings or Dragon/Dungeon magazine, though. the Vanara got de-Broken on the errata, no more +2 Int, +2 Wis, -2 Str. |
| Stockvillain12-15-07, 05:09 PM | YAY Grippli! Love the little colorful frog-people, for they are mighty [cute]!:w00t: |
| Muglock12-16-07, 08:10 PM | Speaking of Frog people, why don't you check out the Bullywug's in Monsters of Faerun. They may suit your druidic tastes. They get some natural armor, have a swim speed, they don't slow down in marshes/swamps/mud, and they have a +6 constitution which may come in handy, they have penalties to wisdom, but, overall, they are a natural animalistic race that would fit some kind of druid. Well, maybe they would make better barbarians, but, I would like to play a Bullywug druid myself. |
