| dragonology25908-17-07, 02:35 PM | Being a dwarf, you get a +4 AC bonus against big creatures like Giants, Goblins and other, right? So when you play your charector, focus on attacking and being attacked by creatures like that. So you get an advantage. and you will be harder to be hit. For example, if your AC is 19, and you are fighting a Stone giant, Your AC will rise to be 23. That is pretty good. Hope this helps. |
| Cthulhu312508-17-07, 02:46 PM | FAIL Although more imaginitive than some trolls. |
| usemagicdevice08-20-07, 03:24 AM | I love dwarf fighters, the AC bonus could be against any race larger than you with a simple feat: titan fighting (note: two feats actually, dodge prerequisite; but imagine the possibilities.. thats +5 AC to almost any character when you're affected with reduce person). This has a GREAT synergy with mobility and the combat form feat: combat defense... amazing!) |
| gullas08-20-07, 06:27 AM | also weapon focus dwarfen waraxe always helps:D and gooooooood con score is going to save your arse from time to time and strength is crucial for smashing stuff and power attack and cleave and reasonable dex is usefull:D and consider taking a lvl or two in dwarfen defender |
| Thalspar08-20-07, 06:55 AM | oversized two weapon fighting two weapon fighting ambidexderity greater two weapon fighting improved two weapon fighting jeah, if i am correct about this be sure to put a lot in dexterity because when you complete this you have 7 attacks per round each doing 1d10 with then minus on two weapon fighting only -1 then you can throw in the two weapon defense feats and some tactical feats along but that's just some extra |
| nyysjan08-20-07, 09:40 AM | ok, this might be more about fluff than crunch, but here's my vision of a good dwarf fighter (good, as in effective) as a dwarf you are hardy and can take lot of damage, you are resistant to poison and magic, you are also hard to trip or push aside if you don't want to be tripped or pushed aside, but, unfortunately, you are kinda slow. You also have familiarity with dwarven Urgosh and Dwarven waraxe. get full plate and tower shield, use dwarven waraxe as main weapon but keep urgrosh handy for when someone might try to charge you. never run after enemies, and try to fight in tight spaces where your enemies can't surround you or get past you to harm your allies (clerics/wizards/etc...), hurt your enemies as hard as you can, but remember that you are best suited for defensive fighting, not charging forward or chasing after enemies. while power attack and cleave/great cleave are good, i'd see dwarf being better served (tower shield proficiency is given, so no later mention of it in here) by improved trip, combat reflexes and improved shield bash, followed by power attack and improved sunder (also getting dodge tree for prereqs for whirlwind attack might be nice, if you have a wizard friend who can use aoe to wipeout enemies you have softened up first), endurance and diehard are given if you have feats to spare. (point blank and precise shot could be usefull to round up abilities and to take out enemies who are still advancing, repeating crossbow proficiency and some nice special arrows might be good too if you can afford the gold.feat cost) also remember to max out intimidate and craft armor/weapon for dealing with enemies and repairing gear if possible. as stats go, i'd say constitution is king for a dwarf, mid to high strength is given, wisdom for better will saves might be nice, dex will help, but is not that awesome, it's not like you are here to dodge things :P , int, good, you need skill points, charisma helps with intimidate, but is often used as a dump stat for a reason |
| Splendide08-20-07, 10:28 AM | A good dwarf fighter is always armed. A good dwarf fighter keeps his tools in perfect condition. A good dwarf fighter can kill a man before he's even thought about how. A good dwarf fighter is respectful of the strengths of others. A good dwarf fighter is aware of the weaknesses of others. A good dwarf fighter knows where to put his feet. A good dwarf fighter is a rock. A good dwarf fighter is the last thing you'll ever see. |
| natzero08-20-07, 10:51 AM | well for the defensive dwarf idea, there is the Earth Dwarf variant in unearthed arcana. +2 str, +2 con, -2 dex, -2 cha stone cutting is +4 instead of +2 dont get the saving throw bonus no +1 vs goblinoids and orcs +4 appraise/craft with stone stuff and finally double stability +8 vs trip/bullrush/etc that plus nice one hander + shield and combat reflexes for the counter trip you make once you win the roll :D :D :D :D |
| nyysjan08-20-07, 01:04 PM | meh, i dislike racial variants, base PhB dwarf is the way to go. |
| Treymordin08-20-07, 01:06 PM | The dwarf does not get a +4 AC vs all large creatures or goblins either for that matter. Does anyone still play a mountain dwarf? |
| usemagicdevice08-21-07, 02:19 AM | That's true, but they do get it towards giants; hence my earlier post about titan fighting... |
| imakuni6708-21-07, 11:18 AM | Take the battle rager from races of faerun! |
| Khurgan08-21-07, 11:32 AM | meh, i dislike racial variants, base PhB dwarf is the way to go. I agree. Khurgan McArik. Level 12 Dwarf Fighter PhB purist. He. Kicks. Ass. Of the original party of 6 only Khurgan and the Tiefling rogue 'Ferostil' are still crusading against Kyuss. Ha har Uh, Wizards, half the stuff above - terms, names, etc. belong to third parties so best not to try to plagiarise them with your new and unenforceable 'User Content' regulations, eh? |
| LoneStranger08-21-07, 07:36 PM | Don't forget to use Races of Stone, there is some good stuff in there (new armors, racial sub levels, feats, etc.). Getting an AC of 30 at 8th level from the PHB, DMG, and RoS for a Dwarven Fighter is pretty nice. |
| Khan the Destroyer08-21-07, 09:31 PM | Eberron Dwarven Weaponmaster 1. Mror Stalwart, Axe Focus 2. Two-Weapon Fighting 3. Improved Shield Bash 4. Weapon Specialization 6. Improved Two-Weapon Fighting, Power Attack 8. Melee Weapon Mastery (Slashing) 9. Melee Weapon Mastery (Bludgeoning) 10. Melee Weapon Mastery (Piercing) 12. Greater Weapon Focus, Greater Weapon Specialization 14. Driving Attack 15. Crushing Strike 16. Greater Two-Weapon Fighting 18. Dodge, Titan Fighting 20. Dwarven Armor Proficiency This build symbolizes a dwarf that has trained extensively in the use of traditional dwarven weapons: battleaxe, warhammer, urgrosh, and waraxe. He can fight two-handed, or fight with two-weapons, or fight with weapon and shield. The trick here is that Mror Stalwart allows you to extend Weapon Focus, Weapon Specialization, and the Greater versions to all four weapons: Battleaxe, Warhammer, Urgrosh, and Waraxe. Because you have WF and WS in a weapon of each damage type (piercing, slashing, and bludgeoning) you can take Melee Weapon Mastery for each type. Meaning, you have the full effects of your Weapon feats whether you're two-weapon fighting with your urgrosh, sword and boarding with your dwarven waraxe, or going two-handed with a warhammer or battleaxe. Continuing the idea of expanding your specialization, Titan Fighting (already mentioned in this thread) allows you to use your skill in evading giants against all creatures larger than you. Driving Attack gives you a great option when using your Urgrosh. If your two-weapon attacks are getting you nowhere, jab that pointy end in the monster and initiate a bull rush (with your check equal to damage dealt). You'll also be able to trip if you win the check. Once the monster is down, switch to two-handed style and take advantage of that prone AC with Power Attack. Crushing Strike on the other hand gets stronger with more attacks, perfect for two-weapon fighting. Since it keys off of bludgeoning weapons, I'd suggest warhammer and light shield, or warhammer and light mace. Each successful attack adds another +1 to your other attack rolls in that round. Anyways... I know it doesn't have that tankish feel that you'd normally associate with a dwarven build, but I thought it was cool. You get to master four different weapons, and can fight with sword and board, a two-handed weapon, or with two-weapons. You also have the ability to bull rush opponents and knock them down. So, less of that dwarven defense (though Titan Fighting is there) and more of that dwarven offense. |
| LoneStranger08-22-07, 01:37 AM | Looks good Khan but I'd put Dwarven Armor Proficiency much earlier on that list. The only other bit I would do is shift things around a tiny bit to get weapon supremacy quite possibly for the waraxe. Otherwise those are pretty good ideas, not quite the Fortress Dwarf concept I prefer BUT oh well. |
| gullas08-22-07, 03:23 PM | WOA , am I only seeing this or is this tread still alive after I've posted on it(most threads have a tendecie of vanishing after I've posted on 'em):P |
| dragonology25908-23-07, 08:00 PM | I thought that dwarfs do get a +4 on goblins to? Oh well? Another tip is to maybe fight in the dark, (turn off the light or blow out the flame) People can't see you butt you can see them, :advantage: |
| usemagicdevice08-23-07, 09:18 PM | ...maybe you're thinkin of the +1 attack bonus they have towards goblinoids..? |
| dragonology25908-30-07, 09:29 AM | They get a +1 on goblinoids. Wow. You guys are a really good help! I have a question. Should i keep this thread? What do you think i should do with the thread? |
| gullas08-30-07, 12:27 PM | I think that you should at least cast one raise thread spell , if you are a 5th lvl cleric:P |
| Ecalsneerg08-30-07, 12:50 PM | Should i keep this thread? What do you think i should do with the thread? Type normally? *shrugs* |
