I was looking through a list of LA+0 races on these boards (an excellent link, if I could ever find it again), and I noticed there was no Dwarf race with a Strength bonus.

This struck me as odd, as I was about to play in a Forgotten Realms campaign and I was almost certain there was a Dwarf character with an initial Strength of 20; I believe the race had a Charisma penalty. The DM clarified saying that, now, half-orcs are even worse of than they were before.

Did somebody just misread something? Or has anyone else heard about this mysterious +Strength race of Dwarves?

I think these dwarves you are mentioning also have a -2 penalty to dexterity as well.

But yeah, half-orcs are still pretty worthless regardless.

Oh, a Dex penalty. They are no longer strictly superior to Half-orcs, then. Any idea what they were called, or why they aren't on the master list of races?

There is the Earth Dwarf from Unearthed Arcana. It gives +2 Str, +2 Con, -2 Dex, and -2 Charisma. Here is the actual race: Earth Dwarf (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/races/elementalRacialVariants.htm#earthDwarves )

There are probably variants that don't give the Dex penalty but this is the only one I'm able to think of.

Gold dwarf from the DMG has a strength bonus.

Gold Dwarf, eh? My DMG says the Gold Dwarf has a Con bonus and a Dex penalty. Is this something that might have changed between 3.0 and 3.5?

Gold dwarf, iirc, is still +con/-dex.

In 2e they introduced Sundered dwarves. they had +1 str, -1 cha. Max dex was still 17. (reaching on my memory skills, but I think that was it)

Here's what I plucked off these boards:

• Dwarf, Sundered medium humanoid [dwarf], as Hill dwarf except: (by Malkonnen; WotC boards)

+2 str, -2 int, -2 wis

+2 racial bonus on Spot, Listen, and Intimidate checks. (replaces stonecunning and appraise/craft bns)

Favored Class: Barbarian

it's kind of a half-orc, but now a dwarf ... for more words of obvious wisdom, you'll have to wait until next week's episode!
