| Nebo10-05-07, 10:44 PM | How do you know? Have you ever asked a dwarf about its mating habits? It might work that way in your game world, but it might work differently in someone else's. You're perfectly entitled to your opinion on the matter, but that doesn't make you right. |

Why, cheese, of course! Dwarves are arguably the most overpowered race in the PHB. This gives min-maxxers a lot more room to play with things if they're swapping out abilities to create a subrace. Half-dwarves are a natural progression along this line of thinking (though not exactly a subrace). Also, since when has "not being accepted in society" prevented a player from creating a character? Why do you think Drizzt clones were so popular? |

All this is dependent solely upon the dwarf in question (for the first) and the clan in question for the second. Not all dwarves are the same. Additionally, as stated above, the kid may simply not care about the clans, assuming the dwarves of that campaign world congregate as such. |

| HCL10-06-07, 03:21 PM | I would like a half dwarf/half gnome I dont think half dwarf-half human is any good |
| Legdiwena10-06-07, 03:35 PM | How tall is a half-dwarf/half-titan? |
| Mr_Seth10-06-07, 03:39 PM | The Dark Sun campaign setting did have a half-dwarf race - the Muls. Giant, powerful, sterile folk used as slaves. |

Actually, you are wrong. Well, sorta. In a few settings where dwarven females are quite rare, it was not uncommon for Dwarven men who could not nab a wife within the dwarven culture to venture out into the world and grab a non-dwarven (typically human, i believe). In said setting, the offspring are essentially pure-blood dwarves (particularly in mechanics) save being a few inches taller than their *actual* pure blood cousins. In other settings, such as Forgotten Realms and Dark Sun there are indeed actual half-breeds, and while, no, they do not nessisarily share the same status as their pure blood cousins, they are not nessisarily shunned (though Derro, admittadly) are. So no, its not plain and simple. |
| Glak10-06-07, 08:55 PM | In my setting Gnomes are the result of a magical crossbreeding of Dwarf and Brownies (not the one from the MM, I just used the name for a small fey of my own design). Gnomes can freely breed with Dwarves and Brownies and the result is always a Gnome. Of course with Brownies being wild fey creatures they tend to breed more with Dwarves but even that is pretty rare. In another campaign that I was working on humans and dwarves could crossbreed and the result was always considered a human because in order to be considered a dwarf you had to be able to recite your lineage all the way back to the first dwarves. Half-dwarves couldn't do it, just didn't have the right kind of brain. |
| jeff_crippen10-08-07, 09:32 AM | I feel that everyone who has posted a reply to my first statement is right in a way. But first and foremost you can create a halfbreed with any race you want and argue that it is all in a natural progression along this line of thinking for the game. All be it some campaign settings have have halfbreeds and they work in that world and that is all good but give me a reason why creating a half dwarve race and giving it all the dwarve benefiets is a right thing. If you are makig a half-breed make it a mix of the parents not all the racial traits of the dwarve only, like so many do... |
