| Rumple_Cragstan08-03-07, 08:40 PM | Inspired by a number of sources, and the fact that my world is extremely elementally-focused, I've created this elemental-flavored shifter variant that I wanted to pass by you guys; Elemental Changeling Medium Size +2 racial bonus to Knowledge (Arcana) Elemental Shift: Exactly the same as the shifters from Ebberon, except with the Elemental traits listed below. Elemental Affinity: An Elemental Changeling can gain the benefits of multiple Elemental Runes (I'll add a link to them later, think of it as DragonMarks until I post the stats for them). Elemental Traits: Legs of Air: +2 Dex, +4 Jump and Tumble Move as Wind: +2 Dex, +10 to base speed Solid as Rock: +2 Con, Stability (as per the Dwarven racial ability) Fists of Stone: +2 Str, Fists are treated as Clubs. Serenity of Water: +2 Int, Shifter gains a Swim speed of 30 (does *not* give the ability to breathe water) Fluid Motion: +2 Dex, +4 Tumble and Escape Artist Fiery Spirit: +2 Cha, +4 Concentration, +1 to Will Saves Flametouched: +2 Str, +2 Fire damage to all attacks (damage transfers to weilded weapons); for every 4 class levels the shifter has, the damage increases by 1. Eyes of Darkness: +2 Wis, Darkvision 60ft Shadow Form: +2 Dex, +4 to Hide and Move Silently Light Blessed: +2 Cha, Gain fast healing 1; for every 4 class levels the shifter has, the fast healing improves by 1. Primal Power: +2 Str, +1 force damage to all attacks (damage transfers to weilded weapons); for every 5 class levels the shifter has, the damage increases by 1. What do you all think? How can I balance this any better for an LA+0 race? |
| Rerecros08-03-07, 08:44 PM | this is very wonky. +10 speed is not equal to +4 bonus to jump and tumble is not equal to fast healing. |
| Rumple_Cragstan08-03-07, 09:29 PM | this is very wonky. +10 speed is not equal to +4 bonus to jump and tumble is not equal to fast healing. I know, which is why I posted it here... these are the outlines and initial ideas I had, and I want help refining it. Some are more powerful than they should be, some are less. Any suggestions on how to even them all out? |
| Rerecros08-03-07, 09:39 PM | Well a lot of this can be covered by the shifter already, with minor changes to fluff, and maybe changing the attribute bonuses/penalties around. the beast hide shifter can be the rock type one. The fire damage is the only one that I'd add to the list of shifter options, and it looks balanced enough (I don't think any creature has force resistance, so I'd leave that one out). Dream sight is a little weak, so I'd combine it with darkvision like in your eyes of darkness. fast healing can be gained only through feats later one. |
| Rumple_Cragstan08-05-07, 01:54 AM | My problem with just modifying the shifter abilities is that there's not too many shifter abilities to choose from. With my campaign world having 6 specific elements in play, I'd like to have at least one for each element. I understand that there's alot of balance issues with this race, which is why I posted it here. I want these abilities to have serious flavor to them, and I want them to be unique... but at the same time, that kind of difference causes balance discrepancies. |
| Rerecros08-05-07, 05:12 PM | Air: Swiftwing Wind: Longstride Rock: Beasthide Stone: Razorclaw, with slams replacing claws. Water: Truedive Flametouched: +2 Str, +2 Fire damage to all attacks (damage transfers to weilded weapons); for every 4 class levels the shifter has, the damage increases by 1. Darkness: Dreamsight, with darkvision Light Blessed: Healing Factor (such an xmen ripoff) Primal Power: no, maybe with a PrC Fluid Motion: +2 Dex, +4 Tumble and Escape Artist, (maybe when combined with fortification, and elemental immunties.) Fiery Spirit: +2 Cha, +4 Concentration, +1 to Will Saves (Take 10 on concentration? Imunity to mind influencing effects?) Shadow Form: +2 Dex, +4 to Hide and Move Silently (I would give them hide without cover, then hide in plain sight as an elite) 12? I thought there were 6 specific elements in play? |
| Rumple_Cragstan08-05-07, 07:04 PM | 12? I thought there were 6 specific elements in play? There is, and I used 2 for each as a guideline.... however, you've done a good job here I think so I'll work with the details you've suggested. Thanks. |
