Er, which elves? Imo most are decentish mages (they get some great sub levels for generalist mages), wood elves are good rangers or multiclass ranger/scouts, many elves make good rogues if you don't mind the low hp...

To be honest, with all those elven races, I doubt there's something elves are not good at.

Gray Elves make great rogues.
+2 Dex and Int
-2 Con and Str

Don't think I've ever seen an elven barbarian, and for good reason.....anything that relies LOTS on Con generally doesn't work for elves, but other than that almost everything else does :elf:

Champion of Corellon Larethian and Wildrunner from Races of the Wild are Elf and Half-Elf only, so chances are elves are the best at those..... :smirk:

Yeah, we had a grey elf spellthief & wood elf barbarian combo that rocked.

Wood elves are actually fine as barbarians. True they're -2 con but you make that up in a rage & the +2 dex helps the AC penalty when raging. Plus barbarians tend to use light or medium armor so a better dex doesn't hurt.

Wild elves make a decent choice for barbarian ... no Con penalty, just +2 Dex, -2 Int. Their favored class is sorcerer.

Wood elves can make passable barbarians imo. However, my idea of a barbarian elf might be closer to the Wild runner PrC - maybe less tough than your average Conanesque type, but a small, frenzied ball of teeth, blades, and fury.

There is an elf for every season, but the basic PHB elf is pretty good at being a rogue, bard's not a bad choice either. Going to the Monster Manual, you can find several other varities of elf. Grey elves are best suited to being wizards, but can be useful as a skill-orientated rogues too. Wild Elves (my personal favorite) have a dexterity bonus and an intelligence penalty. They're useful in lots of positions (Wild elf barbarians rock). Wood elves are alright, they've got a strength bonus, at the cost of intelligence... meaning they can hit pretty hard, but they've got that nasty constitution penalty which is MURDER for a melee race.

But why play an elf!? Play something more badass.

Maybe something green...with tusks ;)

That image is just awesome. Does anyone know which book it originates from? I've been searching for something worth blowing up to frame on my wall, and this is definitely worth getting a new book for (I'll take any excuse to buy new books :D ).

It comes from the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/fracc/882360000) from 2001

Not really >_>

Half-elves fail at everything.

Not really >_>

Half-elves fail at everything.

Most characters (particularly elves) that become arcane archers are fighter/wizards. Half-elves have slightly more flexibility when qualifying for this prestige class because they designate their highest-level class as favored, whereas an elf's favored class is wizard. All arcane archers must be able to cast 1st-level arcane spells and thus must have at least one level of sorcerer or wizard (from the Player's Handbook), warmage or wu jen (both from Complete Arcane), or beguiler or duskblade (both from PH II). Alternatively, characters taking a less traditional route to qualify for this prestige class could have two levels in bard or four levels in hexblade (Complete Warrior) or spellthief (Complete Adventurer).

that's found in the prestige class section on this website

Ranger or sorcerer? If you want to do both, I can think of Master of Yuirwood, possibly with the Battle Sorcerer variant from UA (medium BAB, can cast in light armor, d8 HD). However, it is generally not that great (esp. multiclassed) if you are the group's only arcanist.

Duskblade and Swordsage are very elvish. There is a PrC in ToB exclusive for elves (Eternal Blade).

I'd add Aquatic Elf to the list of good Barbarians. As long as you can manage the gills, of course.
