| OpakeDragon12-07-07, 03:11 AM | ERUDITE Originally Erudites were indistinguishable from other humans of the world. A group of dedicated human scholars and magic users built a fortress in a gorge, and closed their borders for a millennia. The group was of considerable size and magical genetic pools, few ventured for long from the safety of the community. Magic is highly regarded as an essential part of life. Those born without the spark or want to learn the arts are not shunned or exiled. So long as no one tries to hinder the learning of another, even their own children, then they are allowed to make their living in anyway they like. It is not uncommon for a cook, farmer, or even a porter to be a magic user. __Personality: Erudites are an ambitious subrace of humans. Erudites' regard for magic is so high that even the average infantryman has at least minor magical abilities. Erudites are constantly in search of new, and old, magicks that will further individual and communal research. __Physical Description: Erudites are slight humans, but Erudites lifespan is slightly longer than human spans. Erudites typically stand from 5 feet to a little over 6 feet tall and weigh 95 to 135 pounds, with men the same height as and only marginally heavier than erudite women. They are intelligent but frail as a result of focusing on intellect. They tend to be pale-skinned and dark-haired, with deep blue, green or brown eyes. Erudites have no facial or body hair. They prefer simple, comfortable clothes, sometimes with a rune embroidery or talisman jewellery. Erudites live long lives compared to other humans, reaching adulthood at about 18 and rarely living longer than a single century, only one has been recorded to have lived past 200. __Relations: Erudites can pass as slim humans, but they give try to give every individual a chance to prove themselves. While they act the good neighbor, Erudites are always looking for ways to forward themselves, making them less than completely trustworthy to outsiders. __Alignment: Since erudites love magic in all its forms most tend toward neutrality and chaos, but not necessarily both. __Erudite Lands: Most erudites live in well protected enclaves on or near centers of magic; ancient places that are inherently magical. When they hunt game, gather food, and grow vegetables, magic is usually involved. Their contact with outsiders is usually limited, though some few erudites make a good living trading minor magic items, armor and weapons as well as magically tailored clothing finery. __Erudites encountered in human lands are commonly wandering adventurers in search of magic, fame or wealth. Most of these wandering Erudites are mistaken for slim humans and most prefer it that way. __Religion: The Matron of the Erudites is Anastrianna Baelumil. She was one of the founders of the first enclaves of the erudites. She was the most powerful of the mage founders. In the pursuit of magical understanding Anastrianna delved into the devine magics that Baccob granted. While Baccob is a powerful god, Anastrianna was always worried that since Baccob was the Uncaring that her people would eventually loose focus and stop aiding the people as a whole. Most erudites were hard pressed to come even close to her power. On her two hundred and eleventh birthday Anastrianna died, but as her last breathe left her, a bright light engulfed her body and she became a divine entity. __Language: The Erudite language, which uses a combination of the draconic, elven, dwarven, and common alphabets, is also combination of draconic, elvish, dwarvish and common. The original group of humans to found the Erudites had lived in diverse lands so in the process of sharing and reading new text the languages started to be used all at once. With some words being in different languages, whole words started to become unrecognisable by the original language as they were combined with the same word in another language. The sounds of each language still rings through depending on the context of the conversation and the attitude of the speaker. __Names: Erudite names range greatly from dwarvish sounding to distictly elvish to something as foreign as a Draconic word. __Male Names: Aramil, Aust, Enialis, Heian, Himo, Ivellios, Lau- cian, Quarion, Soverliss, Thamior, Tharivol, Barendd, Brottor, Eberk, Einkil, Oskar, Rurik, Taklinn, Torderk, Traubon, Ulfgar, Veit. __Female Names: Anastrianna, Antinua, Drusilia, Felosial, Ielenia, Lia, Mialee, Qillathe, Silaqui, Vadania, Valanthe, Xanaphia, Artin, Audhild, Dagnal, Diesa, Gunnloda, Hlin, Ilde, Liftrasa, Sannl, Torgga. __Adventurers: Due to their racial abilities and cultural predilections, erudites make superb wizards. However, the erudite also does well as rogues, swashbucklers and factotums, opening a wide array of class options. ERUDITE AS CHARACTERS --2 Constitution, +4 Intelligence: Erudites are smart, but frail. -Medium: As Medium creatures, erudites have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size. -Erudite base land speed is 30 feet. -+2 racial bonus on Spellcraft, Use Magic Device, and Knowledge(arcana) checks. -Automatic Languages: Common, Erudite. Bonus Languages: Any -Favored Class: Wizard. A multiclass erudite's wizard class does not count when determining whether they take an experience point penalty for multiclassing. Wizardry comes naturally to erudites. *EDIT: * I created this in response to the lack of +0 races that have a +4 to int. there are +4 str, con, dex, wis , but no int or cha ones. this is meant to benefit both skill freaks and int based casters. |

EDIT: besides the Orc? |
| Qube12-07-07, 07:42 AM | --2 Constitution, +4 Intelligence: If I were DM, I'dd dub it a LA +1 race: unbalanced stats, and to good to be wizard (lets face it, 1d4 or 1d4-1 doens't make so much diffrence when you cast all your spells DC+2 + have much more spells) |
| OpakeDragon12-07-07, 08:18 AM | If I were DM, I'dd dub it a LA +1 race: unbalanced stats, and to good to be wizard (lets face it, 1d4 or 1d4-1 doens't make so much diffrence when you cast all your spells DC+2 + have much more spells) I actually created it to use with a skill freak (sick of not being able to place my stats ----bleh "organic characters") and the fact there (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?p=10002276) really is no races with +4 int lower than LA+1. as for saying that its unbalanced, with FP it comes out to be like 12. ERUDITE AS CHARACTERS --2 Constitution, +4 Intelligence: Erudites are smart, but frail. [9 FP] -Medium: As Medium creatures, erudites have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size. [0 FP] -Erudite base land speed is 30 feet. [0 FP] -+2 racial bonus on Spellcraft, Use Magic Device, and Knowledge(arcana) checks. [+3 FP] -Automatic Languages: Common, Erudite. Bonus Languages: Any -Favored Class: Wizard. A multiclass erudite's wizard class does not count when determining whether they take an experience point penalty for multiclassing. Wizardry comes naturally to erudites. +4 int costs 9 FP, as highest stat +3 FP, -2 con costs -3 FP. +2 in 3 individual skills costs .5 FP per skill point (.5 x 6 = +3FP). balanced LA+0 characters fall between 10 and 14 skill points. beside that can you actually say this race (which is essentially just a couple of ability mods) is as powerful compared to say a Tiefling: +2dex, +2int, -2cha, darkvision 60, +2 bluff and hide darkness 1/day, resistance cold 5, fire 5, electricity 5? Tiefling is almost way too awesome as a rogue.... why wouldnt you be a rogue if you were a tiefling? or even a wizard? only reason I gave it skill increases was to make it balanced. you have to admit saying LA +1 is a little harsh considering the lack of specials this guy gets compared to most every other LA +1 race. |

HUMANS • Medium: As Medium creatures, humans have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size. [0 FP] • Human base land speed is 30 feet. [0 FP] • 1 extra feat at 1st level. [6 FP] • 4 extra skill points at 1st level and 1 extra skill point at each additional level. [3.5 FP] • Automatic Language: Common. Bonus Languages: Any (other than secret languages, such as Druidic). See the Speak Language skill. • Favored Class: Any. When determining whether a multiclass human takes an experience point penalty, his or her highest-level class does not count. [0.5 FP] Total Human FP = 10 FP Erudite Traits (Ex) These traits are in addition to the human traits. • +2 Intelligence, -2 Constitution. [1 FP] • Automatic Language: Erudite. • Favored Class: Wizard. [1 FP] Total FP = 2 FP + 10 FP = 12 FP This revision came to me in the shower as I realized that all I really wanted was a subrace of human with an int bonus, like the grey elf. With an added favored class I figured that it was a minor boon as Favored Class: Any and Wizard with 1 FP but if Im wrong then I still have a 2 FP margin for error while still being balanced. +2 int is 4 FP and -2 con is -3 FP so an increase of 1 FP. |
| OpakeDragon12-11-07, 07:19 PM | anyone have an opinion about this Human subrace? Erudite Traits (Ex) These traits are in addition to the human traits. • +2 Intelligence, -2 Constitution. • Automatic Language: Erudite. • Favored Class: Wizard. as was pointed out by a friend, that the second favored class was actually worth a feat, I think this one would go over better. Opinions? Erudite Traits (Ex) These traits are in addition to the human traits. • +2 Intelligence, -2 Constitution. • Automatic Language: Erudite. |
