Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of some evil playable races, acceptable in the faerun campaign.

Our DM is making an evil campaign, level 3. Up to +2 level adjustment allowed. So I was wondering what evil races are playable with a level adjustment of +0 - +2

Any help will be greatly apreciated, thanks!

Any member of a non-evil race can be evil. Even aasimar, they are just super rare.

That said the most common evil race is probably the Drow. They are found in pretty much any book.

The answer to any "What kind of [quanitfier(s)] race can/should I play" is almost always "human".

Krinth - think shadow-esque netherese humanoids. Champions of Evil. No LA, ver respectable ability mods, darkvision, can't be Shaken, extra bonus vs. other Fear(s), etc. Very decent for martial types.

Necropolitan - Libris Mortis, excellent for d4 and d6 HD types given Undead = d12. Undead immunities, darkvision, etc. make for way less bookeeping. Fort is almost never a worry. Get Disguise up etc to compensate for deathly visage, etc.

Air Genasi - LA +1, though I usually prefer the lesser variety (Player's Guide to Faerun) for no LA. good for rogues, dervishes, swashbucklers, etc. Finesse recommended. Really good mods, darkvision, don't knock that Breathless bonus either. That can be very handy.

Not knowing the class and character concept you are wishing to portray kinda' hampers the creative process here. Illuminate for more feedbacks.

Playable for Faerun makes it trickier, but you might just be able to get a Githyanki or Githzerai in. Githzerai make very good rogues.

Thank you for all your replies, they have been very helpful.

As far as what I wish to play, Im still deciding. I didn't want to be the stereotypical assassin rogue or the evil maniacal necromancer/pyro mage. I want to try and be more of a cunning evil. Kind of like the ones that lie in wait for an opening, but I also wish to be able to wear big armor. We all know we all like heavy spiky armor on our evil villians :p

Go with a Githyanki Psychic Warrior then. All you need is in the XPH. You can also get a Githyanki silver sword.

i would choose a tiefling as well because you can access magic and you can also still be powerful in other areas:D :D

There is the Jarren from the Book of Vile Darkness. It's pretty evil version of the Halfling.

Otherwise, check out obviously the half-fiend, the orcs, the gnoll, the bugbear, the goblin and the hobgoblin. They're all pretty good choices (especially the hobgoblin, goblin or Jarren if you want to go assassin).

I'd also go for Githyanki Psi-warrior if you can, with the option of going for the slayer PC

Go Orc!

And for added Munchkin factor go Half Ogre-Orc using the Dragon Mag template for only +1 ECL!

Vasharan. They're essentially human except that the feat they receive at first level must be vile.

Jerren. Evil halflings

both are in the book of vile darkness

Savage species, you won't be able to multi class for a bit, but may I suggest an elemental. earth and air, their special movement abilities just beg to be abused.

Has nobody mentioned Kobolds? While they look weak initially, they can become quite powerful if built correctly. That, and kobolds are cool.

Did you realize that the dracolich template has a listed LA? Dragonwrought kobold dracolich, baby.

Actually, the template is not that great for kobolds, but playing a small sized dracolich has its own sort of style.

Anyway, you should definitely check out the Hellbred from one of the Fiendish Codexes. Or alternatively, choose something no one expects to be evil, like a halfling or gnome. Then you can get away with much more evil than if you have horns growing from your head and speak in the voice of the damned.

I second the idea of goblin, although if you want to play a big bruiser with spiked armor I personally would go Orc. +4 Str on a LA 0 creature is worth the dazzledness in bright light, especially if you invest 1 sp (1 sp!) on Shaders from Races of Eberron (goggles that get rid of the dazzle in exchange for a very, very minor spot penalty).

Cheers!

I like hobgoblins, then again they're a cross between feudal Japan & Klingons in my campaign. Used the Oriental classes in the Complete books & repaced FC Fighter with FC Samurai. Plus I got rid of that stupid +1 ECL.

I don't know if it's really evil, but after a discussion a few pages back on dragonborn aspects, I kind of wonder what a dark dragonborn raptorian would play like. You'd have most of all three benefits of the dragonborn and you can just discribe your character as a a half-shadowdragon... all for a +1 adjustment (which I'd probably buy off).

The Gheden (Dragon Magazine 313, page 63) is a Half-living/Half-zombie template and has LA +1.

The same issue has the Ghost Elves; LA +1 elves who escaped from the the Nine Hells and now live on the ethereal plane.

Goblin. From size: +1 to AC, +1 on attack rolls, +4 to Hide ckecks. Racial: +4 to Move Silently and Ride checks. Darkvision without being dazzled in sunlight and 30' move. And no LA.

int -8 actually ;)
ray of idiocy is that builds bane.. ;)

But hey, i think you cannot legally go below 3 in int, so you get free points on your usual fighter build, int 6 or 8!

Orcs dont have a neg wis.. they are wiser than halforcs.
Savage otoh even gives a +2 on wisdom,,. something about raw animal cunning
