Because elves are basically an unplayable race in the scheme of the campaign world I'm working on, I'm working on a bloodline type race in the vein of planetouched that captures some essence of elven and fae traits (yes, I know those aren't the same thing, but work with me...). I want them to be emphasize their natural ability at spell-casting, without giving them spell-likes, but keep them playable as a core race.

Fae-touched

+2 CHA, -2 CON (, +2 DEX?)

- Fae-touched can cast Enchantments and Illusions at 1 level lower than normal. Additionally, they gain +2 to DC for spells of those schools.
-Fae-Empathy: Communicate with fae and +2 to Charisma based checks against fae.
-Low-light vision
-Favored class - Sorcerer/Hedge Mage (from Legends of Excalibur:Arthurian Adventures)

I wasn't sure about giving them the Dex bonus with the special abilities, but Charisma isn't much of a bonus compared to the Con penalty. Any thoughts? Any other abilities a race like this might have? Should they get some of the human bonuses like extra skill points?

Should I have put PEACH in the title for this thread? I'm sorry, I'm not sure how things run around here yet. As it is, this race isn't a fully-realized race. There are likely to be scattered members of this race throughout the world, but they don't form their own society - they just become part of the society they are born into. Most fae-touched won't even KNOW they have elven blood until later in their lives, some may never know.
Please, I really need an opinion on this race so I can get my campaign moving.

Fiend Folio actually has a race called Feytouched already, which might be another way to do the same sort of thing. They're not too dissimilar to the abilities you have suggested in your post and a +1 LA (won't post specifics as FF isn't OGL), and are the descendents of humanoids and fey.

If you want to stick with yours, for a LA+0 race I'd just suggest perhaps +1 caster level to Enchantment spells, low-light vision, +2 CHA, -2 CON. Perhaps the CHA check bonus against Fey too. For LA+1 you could give +2 DEX too, and perhaps the druid's Resist Nature's Lure?

Yeah, I looked at that race. It seemed too influenced by fey characteristics. Technically speaking, my fae-touched are descendants of elves, not fey. However, the elves and fey on my world are more like kin than usual. I guess it's a misnomer, huh?

Anyway, the +1 caster level sounds good. I was trying to emphasize their natural ability at casting by making those spells available to them at lower levels, but your idea sounds more balanced. Do you think there would be any other abilities (not stat bonuses) that I could add without giving them the LA?

Perhaps a save bonus against Enchantment spells and effects, akin to elves?
