Faerie Dragons. Do they still exist? [Archive] - Wizards Community

I was just watching a rerun of the classic Dungeons & Dragons cartoon, which featured a small race of dragons called Faerie Dragons. After doing a bit of googling I learned they appeared in an old Dragon issue during the AD&D days (sadly before my time), and they might have appeared in a Monster Manual as well (I don't know which). They are supposedly related to Pseudo Dragons, but have completely different personalities.

They seem like a very interesting and fun race, so I am hoping that they might have appeared again in a 3.0 or 3.5 book. Any such luck?

Thanks in advance for any help trying to locate these guys.

This thing has 8 HD and a LA of +4... so it's a montser with an ECL of 12 we're talking about.

So, that just means that it would have to be a relatively high powered campaign.

I still think it's a bit queer...

Damn. I failed to notice the 8 HD. All I noticed was the +2 level adjustment when I skimmed through it's entry. Thanks for catching that JiCi.

Then again, I could try playing a fully monster character if the campaign's level is close enough. Would such a character be playable?

Oh, and I've just learned that Bastion Press/DragonWing Games made a 3rd party version of the Faerie Dragon, which is meant to be closer to it's original concept. Does anyone know if it's balanced and worth seeking out?

I don't think it will be very suitable as a monster class...

Most of it's abilities are to save it's own hide out of tight situations, and those characters don't really work well. It's good at survival on it's own.. Not a very good teamplayer.

Be aware that Faerie Dragons were extremly downgraded since 2nd Ed. (No True dragons anymore).

You could always opted to get one as a cohort for one of your characters, that's what they've been everytime I've seen them. You would just need the Dragon Cohort (or Dragon Familiar depending on your dm) feat and meet the proper level requirement.

While it's true Faerie Dragon's aren't your typical characters they do make good companion creatures for good PC's.

Just have your DM rule the butterfly wings in as a cosmetic change.

They still have butterfly wings in 3.5. It's just the artist's interpretation that shows them as the above picture. I think that's Spencer's work. If a creature doesn't have spiky bits and fangs, he'll draw them in.

As for the apple pie, that's an easily added cultural trait.

I got one of them for my Druid/Warlock after he became level 11, it's a female named Zizziz who's sole purpose in life is cause mischief and make the party miserable (even more so then usual). lol

I wonder if it's possible to make a half faerie dragon?

Er, why not... but I don't think the typical half-dragon stat block works very well in that case.

A huge Faerie Dragon of Legend -ponders- Yup, that is something I definately would like to see. The sheer indignity of it all is hilarious!
