| Ashism09-29-07, 03:00 PM | Hiyas all, recently I've been wanting to replace the elves of my homebrew (maybe still call them elves) with something resembling the Fair Folk (exalted) So I was wondering what would be a good approach to making a toned down version of Fair Folk. Well not toned down just D20-fied. I was hoping to make them an LA 0 race...but realize that may not be possible. I've redesigned all the races for my world to match the design level of the dwarves more or less. also I've incorparated the racial paragon classes into the race...with new racial abilities/ skills/ score boosts/ etc every 4th level. Kind of to give each race their own 20 level progression. I have the "elves" left to do. I know I want them to very much so act like a toned down fair folk race (not quite as alien) they do eat dreams and so on. I've replaced gnomes with goblins as a playable race. Goblins being mostly a slave race indentured to the cruel elves. Gnomes exist by the way but mostly as npc's (they are all age category: old or older and tere are no female gnomes anymore...so they are dying out.) Anyway the elves are ancient and chaotic, but were never a world power except maybe in a villanous sense. The dwarves fill that niche as elder "goodly" race. So I came seeking suggestions as to what a 20 level progression would be for the "elves" with 1st level being pretty much LA 0 and something every 4 lvls |

If yes, there is a monster progression article somewhere on the WotC site... ah, here it is: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/sp/20040213a . |

The fair Folk are a kind of race in White Wolf's exalted game, and I like the flavor they were given in that setting. However translating that into d20 is not always so easy. Heres what I've come up with....there are no racial levels to take at every 4 levels each race merely gains additional abilities. Elves +2 Dex +2 Cha -2 Con Med Base Speed 30 Fey Low Light Vision Immune to mind affecting spells +2 bonus to perception (spot and listen) +2 bonus to perform Weapon Proficiency: based on what court the elf belongs to Auto Languages: Fey(elf), common Bonus Languages: goblin, hob, orc, sylvan, ancient common Favored Classes: Beguiler and Ranger 4th lvl. : Charm Person, Faerie Fire, Hypnotism (cha mod/day) 8th lvl. : +2 bonus to perception and may attract followers as the leadership feat (no cohorts) all followers are actually goblin slaves. 12th lvl: +2 Dex or Cha 16th lvl: Deep Slumber, Suggestion, Confusion (cha mod/day) 20th lvl: +2 Dex or Cha and Undying: If killed an elf will return to life in a new body in 2D4 weeks all abilites and powers remain the same, however the elf takes a permanent -1 to Con. If the Elf has died anough times to bring her Con to 0 she is dead forever and returns to the planes of madness from which she was spawned. Spells to return life do not work on her. I might move some of these abilities around a bit...maybe moving the Undying ability to an earlier level. So, any thoughts and or suggestions? |
| kaionon10-01-07, 03:12 PM | That is... a little hard to judge I would say. I'm thinking a solid LA +2 due to the overall stat bonuses, spell like abilities, the (effective) leadership feat, immunity to all enchantment and illusion spells basicly, and the fey type (making them immune to person spells.) Why are they immune to mind affecting spells? Some background might be nice to see where your going with it all, though I can see a little bit in there. Allso, what if the elf is hit by a spell-like mind affecting ability? an EX or Su ability? Do ALL elves of certain level take goblin slaves in your world? should it not be X HD to gain their bonuses since they would have a level adjument? It would be better to divorce culture based bonuses from your races racial bonuses. What if not all 8th level elves want slaves? I have never played exalted, since I avoid white wolf games like the plague so a little more description might go a good way. |
| Ashism10-02-07, 02:07 PM | I'm trying to stay away from LA..thus the racial progression that every race will have in this world (or already does). I know it ups the power level a bit for my players but I'm comfortable with that since its going to apply to npc's as well. I do want the elves here to be a tad bit more powerful than other races but they will have their many setbacks....Such as needing to "feed" on dreams and not really being able to do or be anything original, hence they steal all their thoughts and emotions (ie they don't know how to love, hate, fear, etc...they just act like they do) Also they are going to be taking increased damage from cold iron and there are many spells which can ward against them. The leadership thing is just reflective that yes every elf thats encountered will most liekly be a noble of some sort and have slaves at some point. They can choose not to however, so its up to the elf. I'm rethinking the immune to mind spells....the reason they are is because mind affecting spells are their livelyhood and they use them almost exclusively. But they also use plenty of illusions so I was thinking of giving them bonuses to save against enchantment and illusion and immunity to insanity spells The insanity spell immunity is based on the fact that they are from a formless and chaotic place (they are sort of avatars of chaos) and have all some hints of insanity about them already. |
