I have a player that wants to play a tinkerbell sized fairy race instead of the small sized pixie. Im also trying to keep it to LA +0 . How does this sound(first attempt at something like this btw)

True Fairy

Str -7
Int +2
cha +4

size: diminutive

fly 30/ perfect

Spell like abilities.
Invisability(not greater): this effect is always active, and can be deactivated at will.

I apologize in advance if this comes off as harsh, please take it all in stride:

Str -7? No odd penalties/bonuses on stats, ever.

fly 30/perfect? can it walk? It doesn't matter, this is crazy broken by itself.
Invisibility? Always active makes it the same as greater invis, unless of course you intentially meant to say they couldn't reactivate it ever after attacking?

I don't know why you have a intelligence bonus, pixies are usually uneducated, flighty, passionate, and dumb.

Anyway, you have to do tinkerbell fairies as bloodlines (delayed abilities with level adjustments)

If this is a unique character opportunity you would want to consider other options than trying to create a base race for use as a standard PC race.

For instance, if you're using point buy, you could give the pixie player the option of being a "tink" if he uses a much lower point buy (36 for everyone else, 25 for him).

Stats for a tink:

Tink
Ability modifiers: -4 str, +2 dex, -4 con, -2 int, +2 cha
Type: Fey.
Size: Tiny (+2 to hit +2 AC, +8 hide, -8 grapple, encumbrance 1/2 medium creature, equipment 1/10th)
Speed: Base land speed is 2 squares (10 feet).
Tink glide (Ex): A conscious tink doesn't take damage from falling. They may move forward at a rate of 4 squares (20 feet) foward per 1 square (5 feet) down. Consider this movement flight with clumsy maneuverability and only downward movement possible. Can't run while gliding.
Tink flight (Ex): Tinks may fly with speed of 4 squares (20 feet) with Clumsy maneuverability as a standard action (or double move as a full-round action). A tink can only maintain a fly speed for a number of consecutive rounds equal to their constitution before they must rest for 2 rounds. Tinks can glide between flights. They can only fly at less than medium encumbrance.
After 5th level a tink can fly as a normal move action with no time limit and the maneuverability becomes Poor. Every 2 levels after 5th (7, 9, 11, etc) the speed increases by 1 square (5 feet) to a maximum of 60 feet. For every 5 levels after 5th (10, 15, 20) the maneuverability improves one step,
Fade (Su): Tinks have a +4 bonus on hide checks. Tinks with a charisma of 13 or higher may turn invisible as the spell for 10 rounds per day + 5 rounds per level. They may divide these rounds into 5 round increments.
Exotic form: Tinks pay double for armor and clothing due to their exotic body structure.
Languages: Sylvan. Bonus languages: Common, Elf, Gnome, goblin, orc, Auran.
Favored class: Beguiler

This is still a little over powered, but most of the abilities are scaling and the ability scores are negatively unbalanced.

Edit: Added exotic form!

Edit adendum: This race isn't intended for standard play, this is a specific version of the race for an individual with lower ability modifiers and fewer abilities than a standard pixie. I'd give it at least a +1 LA in a standard game (flight and invisibility should almost always do that).

I like the tink you posted, but what do I need to do to make it diminutive in size? Tiny is like cat sized which is a bit too big, I think the frog size diminutive might be more accurate.

Oh! Um, maybe -2 str, -2 con, +2 dex and diminutive. There are rules in the Monster Manual for changing size categories, but they get a little strange when using them on PC races. They're a decent start.

Also, make it clear to the player that you have a nerf-stick readied vs cheese if they start to outshine the other PCs. There's nothing wrong with playing a super-powerful character, as long as you let everyone else play.

Most of my players are self-regulating. I once let a guy play a centaur paladin in a gestalt game without a LA. He was capable of dealing hundreds of damage every round with a ride by attack charge with a lance, but he would do things to make himself "cooler" and overall did damage on par with the rest of the party.

I also had a player who played a slightly modified pixie. Just used the pixie as a base and most of the abilities were feat based or substitution levels. There were a few times he'd just sneak in and coup de grace the enemies, but for the most part he only did this against lower CR random encounter creatures, and against the "bosses" that were obviously set up to let him do so.

I even made a PrC for him to be a dark pixie arcane assassin. (mixture of arcane trickster and assassin)

Yeah, my players are cool about things, because I let them play what they want, without being to hard on them. I read savage species and got a good ifea for diminutive, thanks for the help btw.

A PC spellcaster of Diminutive size that can turn invisible as a SLA is inherently unbalanced (meaning either terrible or phenomenal), no matter what you try to do to balance it.

Now, if you have a good player who just likes to have fun as a group, then so long as they have a decent understanding of how the rules of the game and campaign are SUPPOSED to work, it doesn't matter what you allow them to play. They can play an ELC+0 vampire without causing problems. Of course, some game mechanics can be very difficult to use without accidentally abusing them, so this truly needs to be a good player to pull off something truly breakable without breaking it.

It just depends.

I meant the invis to be used in a way that you couldnt just stay invisable and attack. However yeah the player is good, he usually plays weird stuff, and hasnt yet unbalanced, while a character I have that plays humans, seems to always find a way to be uber.

Why does it have to be LA+0? Just introduce level adjustment.

I suppose I could, I wasnt going to because they are starting at 1st level, and I though it would suck getting HP slower, but maybe I'll start em at 3 or so instead. Anyway the main reason I needed a new one was because the pixie is too big, and I was thinking of scaling down the abilities while I was at it. Does anyone have an idea for a +something LA tinkerbell?

Take a look at the Raptorians from Races of the Wild. LA +0, but they can't fly until they reach 5th level. They're Medium, but they could be a decent starting point for you.

i like this lots, ( save dim size sounds more like tink not tiny) but if i might ask why the -2 to int?

I just think pixies and other "flighty" faeries aren't especially fond of "book learnin" or "thinkin", they're motivated by immediacy and action without forethought. At least in everything I've read about them.

I left out a part of the race:

Exotic form: Tinks pay double for armor and clothing due to their exotic body structure.

A +1 LA tinkerbell race using mine as a base and taking into account a lower LA for player-based restrictions (I promise I won't coup-de-grace everything we fight or spend each fight 100 feet back, 60 feet up, and invisible) could have a crappy flight at 1st level, but better than the one I made (no limit on use, but still would want to scale with level). If you want you could give them an expansion ability (a la tinkerbell in "Hook") that makes them medium but completely suppresses their invisibility and flight. Once per day?

Pixies have polymorph, visibility, crazy arrows, and flight. They're very powerful.
