| ZeronHitaro03-16-07, 12:54 AM | I was thinking about my new race and it occured to me that flavor wise a specific prestige class really would be fitting as their favored classes. From a mechanical stand point what would be the immediate drawbacks and advantages of having a PrC over a base class as a race's favored? |

From a mechanical stand point what would be the immediate drawbacks and advantages of having a PrC over a base class as a race's favored? What race is it, and what PrC seemed fitting to you? I'm curious now :) |
| ZeronHitaro03-16-07, 07:17 PM | The race is a homebrew. I've got most of the crunch written out it's just the fluff I have to work on. Since it's spring break and midterms are over I'll have plenty of time to get to work on it. The PrC is something from the old Mind's Eye articles that really fit well with the background of a character I was designing for a story and needed to make an original race for her. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20020823b In the story the character came from a race that had ports grafted into their bodies (one on the forehead and two on the back of their hands) in which special gems could be inserted to bring out certain latent abilities their bodies possesed. I'll have to give the class a good read-over to determine balance but from the looks of it I might Rule 0 in the designing process that having Crystal Master as a favored class signifies the addition of up to 3 extra ports for gem installation. |

If it's a psion specific prestige class, you should just give them psion as a favored class. The bit about enhancing specific prestige class abilities is a) useless to characters of too low a level to make the prestige class and b) questionably balanced. It may be balanced, but you're comparing to wildly different bits of the system (class abilities versus XP acquisition/multiclassing). It would be hard to strike a balance there, and harder for it to be consistent. Stick with psion; it'll fix both problems. |
