Favorite LA race [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-01-07, 04:29 PM What is everyones favorite "Advanced (+LA)" race? Mine would be Fey-Ri or Shades from FR, of course there are probably better, or stronger classes out there, but for me, they are really fun to RP and add a fun element to the characters.

04-02-07, 01:24 PM Fey,ri and gnolls are good. But I personally have something for the Tiefling.

If I want to be the bastard grandchild of a balor I by all means get to be that :D Plus with Tieflings you can give your character custom looks. Tail and horns are opitional. You can have fur if you desire. Your skin color can also be your choice to a degree. You can even have hooves.

But I've always had a soft spot for the more exotic LA races, like Marrash, Succubus, Nymphs etc. =)

04-03-07, 09:55 AM Only LA races that I've played (and still playing) are:

1) Hound Archon
- quite heavily altered (e.g. many spell-like abilities removed or weakened)

2) Goliath
- as in Races of Stone

3) Orog
- quite heavily altered (e.g. large-size, land-speed 40', darkvision 60', removed light blindness)

Goliath is perhaps most interesting of these races and it has some awesome racial feats and substitution levels.

One of the races that I'd love to try is Lizardfolk, Poison Dusk (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/mmiii_gallery/83019.jpg)

Avairels are also quite nice (they aren't that strong, but I like the idea of exotic winged elves)

And finally I think that all of the Rakzasha own (although their LA and racial HD are always TOO high :( )

04-12-07, 04:02 AM The only time I've ever played a +LA race was when I played a Draconic Human Sorcerer (I know, that's a template, not a race, but whatever).
Most of the time I don't think a +LA is not worth the trouble (especially because I often play spellcasters)

But that being said, I still have some favorites that I'd like to play someday:
- Dragons (who wouldn't want to play one)
- Dracotaur (would make a cool barbarian, flavorwise at least)
- Poisondusk Lizardfolk (would make a very good Ranger, I think)

Basically, any reptilian race looks good to me :D

04-12-07, 04:39 PM I second the Catfolk, but that's only races with LA. Without LA, Raptorans pwn everything.

btw, I developed a pretty neat catfolk build if any1 is interested.

Catfolk Spellthief 9/ Daggerspell Mage 10/ Sorcerer 1
Feats: Imp. Init., Catfolk Pounce, Two-Weapon Fighting, Weapon Focus(Dagger), Ambidexterity, Weapon Finesse(Dagger), Quick Reconnoiter.
Dual wield daggers. At beginning of fight, charge someone, beat the crud out of them with multiple sneak attacks and then use daggerspell flurry to release something like cone of cold into the remaining enemies.
The sorcerer level is to prevent using up class abilities from the spellthief adn for lvl 5 sorc/wiz spells.
