Here are the feats that I chose for my Half-Dragon Human Kensai (A specialist fighter variant from Dragon magazine #310) for levels 1-20: Chosen Weapon (Swordstaff; double weapon, Arcana Evolved ) 1. Two Weapon Fighting (PHB) 2. Improved Two Weapon Fighting (PHB) 3. Greater Two Weapon Fighting (PHB) 4. Two Weapon Defense (PHB) 5. Improved Two Weapon Defense (CW) 6. Greater Two Weapon Defense (CW) 7. Rain of Blows; Kensai special ability (Dragon Magazine #310) 8. Storm of Blows; Kensai special ability (Dragon Magazine #310) 9. Dodge (PHB) 10. Mobility (PHB) 11. Spring Attack (PHB) 12. Tumbling Spring Attack (www.seankreynolds.com) 13. Bounding Assault (PHB II) 14. Rapid Blitz (PHB II) 15. Combat Expertise (PHB) 16. Combat Reflexes (PHB) 17. Dragon Breath (Races of the Dragon) 18. Maximize Breath (Draconomicon) As you can see, I chose feats to increase the number of attacks he can make with his chosen weapon, to temporarily boost his AC up and to aid his breath weapon attack. Now I just have to set them up by level. ;) And in case anyone's wondering, a Kensai can be proficient in one martial or one exotic melee weapon, that's why I didn't list an Exotic WP for my character's swordstaff. He already has it. ;) |

If you're going to be two-weapon fighting with a double weapon, you'll want Weapon Focus, Weapon Specialization, Improved Critical and all those fun weapon-specific abilities, because they apply to every single attack you make. The low end of two-weapon fighting attacks have very harsh penalties, and you need all the enhancements you can get. Spring Attack is a bad idea for this build, this character is wasting his time if he's not making a full attack each round. Races of the Dragon or Draconomicon may have some other neat stuff for you to take. |
