| InfragableKronk05-09-07, 05:59 AM | I've just finished modifying the half-fiend to create a template kind of based on dante from the devil may cry video game for one of my pcs and i'd like some feed back. This is my first attempt at anything like this. Fiend Shifter The fiend shifter appears almost the same as a creature of its base race until it shifts into its powerful fiendish form Racial traits: - +4 int, +2 cha,+2 dex - Darkvision 60 ft - Spell-like abilities: A fiend shifter with an Intelligence or Wisdom score of 8 or higher has spell-like abilities depending on its Hit Dice, as indicated on the table. The abilities are cumulative. Unless otherwise noted, an ability is usable once per day. Caster level equal to the creature’s HD, and the save DC is Charisma-based. Fiend Shifter Spell-Like Abilities HD Abilities 1-2 Darkness 3/day 3-4 Desecrate 5-6 Unholy blight 7-8 Poison 3/day 9-10 Contagion 11-12 Blasphemy 13-14 Unholy aura 3/day, unhallow 15-16 Horrid wilting 17-18 Summon monster IX (fiends only) 19-20 Destruction - Fiend shift: A fiend shifter has the ability to shift into his fiend form 1/day per 4 HD. When shifted the half fiend gains the following abilities: - Resistance to acid 10, cold 10, electricity 10, and fire 10. - Damage reduction: 5/magic (if HD 11 or less) or 10/magic (if HD 12 or more). - Spell resistance equal to creature’s HD + 10 (maximum 35). - Ability bonuses increase to: Str +4, Dex +4, Con +2, Int +4, Cha +2. - Natural attacks: A fiend shifter has two claw attacks and a bite attack, and the claws are the primary natural weapon. If the base creature can use weapons, the fiend shifter retains this ability. A fiend shifter fighting without weapons uses a claw when making an attack action. When it has a weapon, it usually uses the weapon instead. A half-fiend fighting without weapons uses both claws and its bite when making a full attack. If armed with a weapon, it usually uses the weapon as its primary attack and its bite as a natural secondary attack. If it has a hand free, it uses a claw as an additional natural secondary attack. Damage for medium characters is Bite 1d6 and Claw 1d4 - A fiend shifter in fiend shift has bat wings. Unless the base creature has a better fly speed, the creature can fly at the base creature’s base land speed (average maneuverability). - +1 natural armor bonus - Lvl adjustment +2 |
| InfragableKronk05-10-07, 02:13 AM | please tell me whats wrong with this i know i forgot a duration |
| InfragableKronk05-16-07, 03:02 AM | hey anything would be good |
| Captain_Kobold05-16-07, 05:23 AM | Hmmmm. So its a half-fiend template that loses Smite good but gains a flight speed and the option of not looking like a half-fiend initially. Why does this justify reducing the LA by 2? You might get away with LA of +2 if you keep the base stats and spell-like abilities, but remove the fiend shift ability and all abilities that it grants. As written, unless the fiend shift is very short duration, I would keep the LA at +4. |

In practice, their shifting is like barbarian rage-- a nice short term buff that can be improved with feats and racial prestige class levels. Something to consider if you're looking to avoid Level Adjustment. |
| InfragableKronk05-23-07, 05:50 AM | I was thinking 3 rounds + adjusted con mod for the duration. same as the barbarian rage is that short enough to reduce the LA by 2 and yes I have thought of stealing from the eberron shifter but i need to borrow the book from my friend. Thanks for the feed back |
| InfragableKronk05-23-07, 05:53 AM | also the half fiend already has a flight speed i didnt add it |
