Flameworn

Yeah I burn stuff. Fire is my life.

Twisted combinations of Fire elementals or Infernal's and humanoids, the flameworn seek to transit to a higher existence through the power of flame.

Flameworn RACIAL TRAITS
· +4 dexterity, -2 wisdom. Flameworn are very dexterous due to their fiery heritage. Their exclusive focus on flame has dulled their perception though.
· Medium size
· Outsider (Native, Fire)
· A flameworn's base land speed is 30 feet
· Resistance fire 5: A flameworn's fiery heritage grants them a semblence of their immunity to fire. This increases by 5 every 5 levels. EX: at level 10, a flameworn will have fire resistance 15.
· Vulnerability to cold 25%: A flameworn's fiery heritage also curses them with a lesser version of their forbearer's vulnerability to cold. (this is like normal vulnerability to cold, except add 25% instead of 50%
· -2 to diplomacy checks with humanoids, +2 to intimidate with humanoids: A flameworn's looks frighten normal humanoids, and hinders diplomatic attempts.
· Scorching Touch (Su): As a standard action, a Flameworn may make a touch attack that deals 1 point of fire damage per HD of the Flameworn. If performed as a full-round action that provokes attacks of opportunity, it deals 3 points per 2 HD. Using Scorching touch to add fire damage to another attack changes it to a regular melee attack. The charge lasts a number of rounds equal to the Flameworn's Con bonus (min 1, not including the one used to create it) or until the Flameworn succesfully strikes another creature, and can be used a number of times equal to its Cha bonus (min 1). Using Scorching touch to add fire damage to another attack changes it to a regular melee attack.
· Automatic languages: Common, Ignan. Bonus Languages: Abyssal, Infernal, Celestial, Elemental Languages.
· Level Adjustment +1
· Favored Class: Warlock. A multiclassed flameborn warlock class does not count when determining whether it takes an XP penalty.

Flameworn CHARACTERS
Flameworn, with their good dexterity, make natural ranged characters.
Adventuring Race: Why members of this class go on adventures.
Character Development: Give suggestions for making a character with this race.
Character Names: Flameworn give names based on various names for flame, otherwise the names are a hissing, crackling sound like fire. They give no distinction between male and female names. EX: Spark, Inferno, Blaze.

ROLEPLAYING A Flameworn
Flameworn are vengeful, quick to act, and brash.
Personality: Flameworn typically hold grudges for a long time, and enmity is usually rid of through action against the offender. Also, they are quick to act and don't think things through. Take feats such as improved initiative to reflect your brash nature.
Behaviors: Flameworn usually will change suddenly, and act like the flame that birthed them.
Language:Flameworn will generally be quick to adapt to new languages. They usually hold conversations with other flameworn in Ignan. The race lacks it's own language, but has developed it's own dialect of Ignan.

Flameworn SOCIETY
Flameworn rarely form large social groups, and prefer to be nomadic. They stand out in a crowd, and thus are often loners.
Alignment : Chaotic neutral is the typical alignment for flameworn, for it portrays the chaotic nature of the flame within them. Flameworn rarely socialize, which causes them to develop a neutral nature.
Lands : Flameworn generally live where nature can support them. Rumors exist of flameworn cities on the elemental plane of fire.
Settlements : Flameworn do not have any cities on the material plane.
Beliefs :Flameworn see their creation as proof the gods do not care about anyone, and thus do not worship any.
Relations: Flameworn are generally feared for their strange looks, and thus do not have any major relations with other races.

What do you think?

Ooh, I like this. I'm glad you resisted granting them an assortment of exotic powers, since it keeps the LA nice and neat.

I quite like this race. It gets bonuses and penalties one would expect on a Fire Elemental-ish race, but not too big and nothing truly exotic. You might want to make them somewhat lighter, though. Also, perhaps you may want to add that their touch deals a slight amount of fire damage, like 1 or 1d3 or something like that.

I was thinking about giving them a minor bonus fire damage on attacks or a minor SLA. I was also thinking about a minor penalty to diplomacy and bonus to intimidate due to their looks.

:bump: Well? What should i do?

Scorching Touch (Su) As a standard action, a Flameworm may make a touch attack that deals 1 point of fire damage per HD of the Flameworm. If performed as a full-round action that provokes attacks of opportunity, it deals 3 points per 2 HD. Using Scorching touch to add fire damage to another attack changes it to a regular melee attack. The charge lasts a number of rounds equal to the Flameworm's Con bonus (min 1, not including the one used to create it) or until the Flameworm succesfully strikes another creature, and can be used a number of times equal to its Cha bonus (min 1). Using Scorching touch to add fire damage to another attack changes it to a regular melee attack.

If that wouldn't add more LA, i'm fine with it.

The damage as you go up in level isn't overpowered so it could fit in.

I'm torn, because energy vulnerability can mess up your day. And also, energy res 10 at low levels is too much. Even LA +1 races only have ER 5.

It's made to be a sort of high energy resistance, but how you look would be a pretty big tip-off that fire spells aren't worth it. This just makes it so that way if you have to face a red dragon for example, you aren't overly screwed if you get caught in the breath weapon. The energy vulnerability and high energy resistance should balance each other out.

Intriguing! I need lower end races for my Elemental Planes, this should work quite well as a basis. I already use Azer on one Plane.

:bump: Is it perfect?

If it would be perfect, anyone would instantly start playing with it.

IMO, you could make it better than it already is by having the Fire Resistance go up by levels. Like that it starts out as Fire Resistance 2 at level one and goes up by 1 or 2 every level or every two levels, so that it'd end with Fire Resistance 20 or 30 or 40 at level 20.

If you would add that suggested Scorching Touch along with it, I imagine it'd be that much closer to an extremely well-balanced race. Perfection? Maybe not. Incredibly well-done? Oh yes.

Thanks. I'll add that in. Also: Its flameworn, not flameworm Ciaran.

If the difference isn't too important to you, change the Diplomacy & Intimidate mods to affect all creatures, not just humanoids. Just for simplicity's sake.

I like the scaling of the fire resistance. Much like templates.

Well done.

The mods are there because there look is a bit on the alien side for them. I think I might just remove them because a DM could just house rule, and not all humanoids would be affected.
