| DarkTouch03-20-07, 09:33 AM | Hey All, I've started working on a new home-brew world and am looking to take a holistic approach to it. I'm starting with the rather requisite battle between the gods and the fallout into the material plane that results in the aftermath. What I'm looking for now are inter-related species that can be woven into the plotline. Its been a while since I've really delved into the backstories monsters so I need some help. Things that I'm looking for: Blink Dogs - Displacer Beasts: I don't remember if it is still true but I seem to remember they attacked each other on sight. Mind Flayers: I love these guys for what I'm looking for. There are various critters from the Illithid home world, there are their long time slaves the Grimlocks, there is the whole backstory with the Githyanki and the Githzerai. Basically, I'm wondering what other non-stand-alone monsters there are out there. That aren't just another creature but have long standing blood feuds or alliances with other creatures. |

An oft-neglected one is dwarves and gnomes against giants, giants can be quite scary and evil. "I must ask all of you to relax, we have researched a new spell that painlessly transmutes your bones to bread on a failed save, but you will suffer an indescribable agony and 5d6 points of damage if you succeed. No hard feelings, I just have to feed my brethren, and you really don't want them coming down here and carelessly smashing things, don't you?" |

| DarkTouch03-20-07, 08:52 PM | Thanks a lot guys. I was afraid I was going to get a bunch of 'half' templated things. Bonus points for anything that is exceptionally law vs. chaos oriented. I'm hoping to make the word of the gods 'Law' with good vs. evil getting a little fuzzy. Archons and Devils don't exactly get along, but they both operate within the confines of the rules. If it helps, the top opponents for PCs will be Dragons, Lycanthrops, Demons (esp. Half demons), and Humans. |
| Dead_Weasel03-20-07, 09:24 PM | White dragons' natural enemies are frost giants, who kill the dragons for food and armor and capture them to use as guards. I would suggest editing the lycanthropes a little bit, and setting rivalries between them. I.e., werebears don't get along with werewolves. Which doesn't even require alignment changes, for that particular case. |

| Endarire03-20-07, 10:39 PM | Githyanki - Githzerai Both Gith - Illithids -EE |
| Darth Sephiroth03-21-07, 12:09 AM | Just a common environment or is there something more to it? Frost Giants raid Winter Wolf packs and steal cubs for slavery. They kill nesting White Dragons to steal dragon eggs. Frost Giants use both of the others as slaves and guards. |
| DarkTouch03-22-07, 09:58 AM | The goblinoids Heh. I just might make these guys 'good guys' in the new world order. |
| SilvercatMoonpaw03-22-07, 10:46 AM | I think there's supposed to be some sort of rivalry between behirs and beholders or dragons, maybe both. |
