| enygmatic_me01-27-07, 01:56 PM | Synlishae looked down at the young men and woman kneeling before him. How many times had he performed the blessing of safe travel now? As he walked by each of them laying his hands upon their spears Synlishae was flooded with the memories of when it was him and his friends and peers kneeling in front of the, then, High Elder Volkaithven. The grand adventures that ran through his head, the amazing sights that filled the corners of his young imagination, and the wisdom and glory that would follow him on his return. Synlishae let a small smile curl the corners of his wolfish muzzle as he remembered the feel of his first true spear in his hands. None of his fantastic dreaming came close to the truth of what lay waiting in the world beyond their village. Some of it wonderful, some of it horrible, all of it helped to build him in to the elder he was today. “Once again we gather here to bless our children as they prepare to go forth into the world so they may experience as we have experienced. We beseech the spirits of our ancestors to guide them and keep them safe. May the spirits be your guide”. The blessing was short and simple as it had always been and shall always be. As the last word of it left Synlishae's lips the young ones before him stood and thrust their spears to darkening sky. Wild cheers erupted for the mouths of the gathered village. The night would be long and filled with celebration and, come this time tomorrow, these young men and women of the village will be gone not to return for at least a year. Though their families and friends will miss them it is known that they shall return some day and bring with them the wisdom of their travels which they will use to better the village and raise the next generation of their people to be even stronger then they themselves are. Personality: Playful in times of peace, deadly serious in times of war, Flytt tend to be carefree in manner until they or their friends become threatened. At these times a Flytt can become a truly frightening foe. Even in dire situations a Flytt is often the last to withdraw from combat in an attempt to assure the safety of their companions. Flytt enjoy good jokes and well played pranks. Whether they are the one pulling the pranks or the subject of one Flytt are usually good natured about it. Particular cruel jokes are an exception to this. Jokes and Pranks are meant for amusement of all involved, not the humiliation or injury of the subject. Physical Description: Flytt appear to be very little humanoids with broad chests and black feathered wings shaped much like a hummingbirds. The heads of male Flytt are those of an animal common to the area the live in (bears, wolves, and stags in forests, great cats in jungles and savannahs, etc.). All female Flytt heads have elvenish features and a small pair of horns that are too tiny to use in combat. Females tend to wear their hair in long braids. All Flytt have a family crest tattoo on their left shoulders, which they receive shortly after birth. Flytt wear clothes made from natural fibers including hemp, willow, beech wood, and bamboo. These clothes are usually of dyed in earth tones or left as their natural color. Brighter colored, gem toned clothing is reserved for special occasions. Flytt hunters or war parties are most commonly found in leather or hide armor and carrying, what appears to be, over-sized spears as their primary weapon. Flytt reach physical maturity by age twelve, though they live for up to one hundred and eighty years. Gender Base Height Height Modifier Base Weight Weight Modifier Male 8” +1d4 8 lb. x.5 Female 6” +1d4 6 lb. x.5 Relations: As fey, Flytt tend to make friends with the other creatures that share their forest homes, most commonly elves and Halflings. Due to their love of pranks Flytt and Gnomes tend to have a lot of common ground on which to form friendships. Alignment: The majority of Flytt live the carefree lifestyle of the chaotic minded. Most others are neutral with a very few being lawful. Most Flytt are good, though neutral and evil Flytt are not unheard of. Homeland Small villages of Flytt can be found in the upper branches of some of the oldest trees in the deepest parts of the worlds forests. These villages are headed by a small council of elders which is advised by a war-chief. Religion: Flytt usually worship nature deities though those that become war-chief usually worship gods of war or strength. Language Sylvan Bonus Languages: Common, Elven, Goblinoid, Halfling, and Orc. Names: Flytt names are always evolving, but they start with a three syllable name at birth. The first syllable is given to them by their parents, the second syllable is the first syllable of one parent's name, and the last syllable is the first syllable of the other parent's name. Beyond that there seems to be no unifying form for choosing the syllables beyond picking sounds that the parents like, nor is there any difference between male and female names (EXAMPLE: Tovshalgor and Lyshsandehn have a child and choose Dev as the first syllable. The new Flytt would either be named Devtovlysh or Devlyshtov.). Flytt will add new single syllables to their names to commemorate true friendships or great accomplishments . When dealing with friends and family a Flytt most often just uses the first syllable of their name. Adventure: At the age of maturity all Flytt leave their village to explore the outside world. This period of travel lasts no less than one year, though often continues much longer than that. It is hope that, during this time of exploration, the young Flytt will gain knowledge and experience that can be brought back for the betterment of the village. - Racial Traits -2 Strength, +0 Dexterity, +2 Constitution, +0 Intelligence, +0 Wisdom, +2 Charisma. Flytt are tiny and not as strong as other races, but are suprisingly resilient. Flytt tend to be friendly and well spoken. Tiny: As tiny sized fey Flytt have a move of 10, +2 to attack, +2 to Armor Class, and a +8 to hide checks. Fey: Flytt are of the fey type and are therefore not affected by spells such as charm person and hold person. Unlike other fey, Flytt gain Hit Dice only by acquiring levels in a character class. Immunity to magical sleep effects and a +2 racial bonus on saves against enchantment spells and effects. Low-light Vision: Flytt possess low-light vision, allowing them to see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of shadowy illumination. The Flytt retains the ability to distinguish color and detail under these conditions. Weapon Familiarity: Flytt are proficient with all simple weapons and with the use of the Greatspear. Fly: Flytt’s have black feathered wings similar to those of a hummingbird that give them a fly speed of 50’ with perfect maneuverability. Flytt cannot wear anything more than light armor and carry no more than a light load while flying. Powerful Build: The physical stature of the Flytt allows them to act in many ways as if they were one size category larger. Whenever a Flytt is subject to a size modifier or special size modifier for an opposed check (such as during grapple checks, bull rush attempts, and trip attempts), the Flytt is treated as one size larger if doing so is advantageous to them. A Flytt is also considered to be one size larger when determining whether a creature’s special attacks based on size (such as improved or swallow whole) can affect him. Flytt can use weapons designed for creatures one size category larger without penalty. However, their space and reach remain those of a creature of their actual size. The benefits of this racial trait stack with the effects of powers, abilities, and spells that change the subject’s size category. +2 to any two Craft skills, chosen at the time of character creation. Common craft skills amongst Flytt include Basketweaving, Leatherworking, Tailor/Seamstress, Tattooing, Weaponsmithing (commonly focusing on spears), and Weaving. Cold Iron Anathema: Flytt have a difficult time wielding weapons made of cold iron. Flytt take a -2 penalty on any attack roll they make with a cold iron weapon or a weapon made only partially out of cold iron, such as a cold iron spear or a bow firing cold iron arrows. Favored Class: Rogue LA +2 |
| enygmatic_me01-28-07, 12:16 AM | Made some minor changes (fixed grammar, tried to clear things up, etc...). |
| Dm_Farble01-28-07, 01:23 PM | Looks good to me. Might steal it for an npc druid... I dont think males and females should get any gender specific penalties or bonuses though. |
| enygmatic_me01-29-07, 02:12 AM | Looks good to me. Might steal it for an npc druid... I dont think males and females should get any gender specific penalties or bonuses though. I did gender different adjustments for three reason. 1) A little bit of inspiration from Drow. 2) I think it is interesting flavor. 3) This is probably the most important. I couldn't decide if I wanted them to have a +2 Con or a +2 Dex. |
| enygmatic_me01-30-07, 10:16 PM | Made some changes to the Flavor/Fluff text to further emphasize the prominence of spears in Flytt culture as well as fixed some grammar. |
| enygmatic_me02-02-07, 12:00 AM | Removed the different gender bonuses and added a little fluffy to explain the ability score adjustments. |
| RoCkEtInToXiCaTe02-02-07, 12:33 PM | I seriously, seriously like this race. But unfortunately, being of Tiny size, I believe they already get an auto-matic -4 to strength, amounting to a whopping -6 strength total. Therefore, them using spears is truely impractical. Perhaps a bow of sorts, or something of that sort should be their tribal focus. The only problem about being so small is not a lot of damage =(. But seriously, I love this race, you have no idea. |

A race only takes the penalties as stated in their racial features. The -6 would be if a small race was reduced to tiny. Just like a Large creature with a +6 to strength wouldn't also get the large creature modifier to strength just for being large. They only get the +6. So, playing a Flytt means you only take a -2 to strength. |
| RoCkEtInToXiCaTe02-02-07, 04:32 PM | Right, i looked it up in my mm and was like, oops, well i am retarded. |
| enygmatic_me02-02-07, 09:43 PM | Right, i looked it up in my mm and was like, oops, well i am retarded. No problem. I have been playing this game since 1e and have jumped on the new rules as they came out. I still find myself getting caught off guard by rules. It is usually those rules that you just don't deal with on a regular gaming session that get you. |
| enygmatic_me02-03-07, 01:16 PM | Fleshed out the Flavor story a little more and wrote a Personality section. |
| RoCkEtInToXiCaTe02-03-07, 04:01 PM | This race is so solid. My only qualm is the +2 to Con instead of Dexterity, especially since they're favored as rogues. Also they're supposed to be warrior-like, but I just don't see how a Spear (which is used by hand to stab people) would go hand-in-hand with a -2 strength. You'd think they'd be a really good archer race, with a Dexterity bonus that would stack to make: +2 dex/rogue/ranged weapons better = great snipers especially with the +8 to hide. Just my two cents, though. |

Just my two cents, though. A small Greatspear in their hands does 1d10+Str mod. Just because the have a strength penalty doesn't mean they must have a low strength. It just means that their strongest amongst them will never be as strong as the strongest member of a race without a strength penalty. With a +8 to hide checks they make great ambush hunters, especially when afforded the extra dice from sneak attack, which requires them to be within 30'. They already get a good bonus to AC, so the increase in HP afforded by the Con bonus, serves the race better when getting in close combat to capitalize on the their sneak attack. As would a really good Bluff skill. Honestly, the Tiny race with a high Dex using ranged weapons is a little over done to the point of pretty much being cliche in my opinion. |

| Ieniemienie02-04-07, 09:21 AM | Isn't this much similar to a Petal...? |
| enygmatic_me02-04-07, 12:31 PM | Isn't this much similar to a Petal...? Maybe? To be honest I haven't looked at the stats of the Petal since I picked up the MM they came in back when it was released. I'll have to check and see what I can come up with. |
| enygmatic_me02-04-07, 01:18 PM | Ok, taking a look at Petals, aside from being tiny fey with wings, they have little in the way of similarities in my opinion. |
| Perseus_Stoned03-05-07, 08:57 AM | Honestly, the Tiny race with a high Dex using ranged weapons is a little over done to the point of pretty much being cliche in my opinion. Quoted for truth; I love what you've done with this race. The "names" idea is great for side-quests or even an addition to a main quest. I'm not too sure about it being balanced as a +2 LA, however. Perfect maneuverability with 50ft speed, powerful build, along with a slew of lesser abilities all strike a pretty nice tone in my book. |
