| Roland_of_the_Eld12-27-06, 04:01 AM | I just saw the director's cut of the Chronicles of Riddick. Now I want to make Furyans a playable race. Any ideas are welcome. |
| KurenaiYami12-27-06, 05:35 AM | As seen in the movies, and mentioned in the novelization, Furyans themselves are impressive physical specimens; they are stronger, faster, tougher, more resistant to damage and injury, possess acute senses, possess immense stamina, and recover quicker than most of the Human races in the Riddick Universe. Riddick, the Alpha Furyan, the strongest and most powerful Furyan, possesses "Eyeshine", which allows him to see in the dark (the Hellhounds of Crematoria also possess eyeshine, but, as stated on "The Chronicles of Riddick" special features, this is purely coincidental). Whether this is a trait of Furyans (or the Alpha Furyan) has not been confirmed. Riddick himself, has obtained what is called "The Wrath of the Furyans", which is essentially the collective anguish, pain, suffering, and anger of the billions of Furyans who didn't escape 30 years ago; from the Necromonger Slaughter. He used it against Vaako and his Hunting Party of Necromonger Soldiers, which killed all of the Soldiers, except Vaako, and the Purifier (who was Furyan himself). Riddick also used this "technique" against Abbott and his fellow prison guards in TCoR: Butcher Bay, after being "interrogated." The extent of the physical abilities of a Furyan are unknown. Riddick himself has held his own against a particularly difficult Dark Planet Raptor (from Pitch Black); he also quickly "re-set" his arm back into place after it was broken by Johns, a bounty hunter trying to capture him. He has also been shown to be very agile and athletic, moving surprisingly fast for a man his size and weight, being able to cover great distances and not tire out as easily as normal humans; he can also leap impressive distances, and can perform otherwise practically impossible physical feats that most humans would be hard-pressed to duplicate. So, they have greater speed, strength, dexterity, and constitution than humans. They also may have Endurance as a bonus feat. As the other Furyans were probably not as strong as our friend Richard B. Riddick, as he is the Alpha Furyan. So just give them a +2 to all physical stats and make his base land speed 40, and give him the appropriate LA. (Note that the extra speed gives them a bonus to jump checks, takign care of that part of the article.) Darkvision may also be appropriate, but the article said they weren't sure if it was racial or something unique to Riddick. |
| YamiSouru12-27-06, 05:36 PM | as for the "eyeshine". its not a racial ability, riddick underwent some weird surgery thing when he was in butcher bay, so its more akin to a graft then a racial ability. |

Possibly also DR 1/- or NA +1 or Fast Healing 1, and +2 on Spot and Listen checks, to represent the "more resistant to damage and injury, possess acute senses, possess immense stamina, and recover quicker than most of the Human races"? |

Actually thats not true. if you played the bucher bay game you learn that the oricle voice granted him the ability to see in the dark. Also lets concider that Riddick himself was an abmormal specimen (the other two furians dident seem nearly as tough) (like saying Arnold was the average human) Personally i would go with Furian +2 str, -2 dex, +2 con, -4 cha (they all seemed to have the personality of bricks) Humanoid Base land speed: 30 feet Human-blooded Bonus Feats: Endurance & Diehard Favored Class: Fighter LA +0 |

Then the game went by a different standard. I think the Comic went the same way the movie did, if that makes any difference. |
| INeedNoSalt12-27-06, 06:38 PM | Yeah, I'm pretty sure the eyeshine is a technological thing, not natural. I'd still just use Human for 'em. |
| ravenshrike12-27-06, 06:52 PM | Dex would be +2 as well. Cmon, fast enough to catch an air elemental as well as the fact that he never uses big weapons? |
| Cadwyn12-28-06, 01:07 PM | hmm....The eyeshine is a gift from the Oracle, not the guy in the prison, though he uses it as a much easier explanation on how he got it. I mean, who wouldnt think he was crazy if he said that he could see in the dark because of some voice in his head ;) |
| YabaTheWhat12-28-06, 01:28 PM | He made up the story in Pitch Black about getting his eyeballs shined. Other than his eyes, he looked human, so it made more sense to pass off his eyes as a medical alteration. |
| DarkSamuraiKyo12-29-06, 08:39 AM | According to Riddick while in Butcher Bay, he received an eye surgery from a "doctor" that enhanced his night vision greatly, but made him quite sensitive to brighter light such as sunlight. He is blinded by sharp exposure to bright lights, and wears welding goggles to protect his eyes. Without them, everything appears in shades of purple and white. According to Riddick, the surgery cost him twenty Menthol Kools. The video-game, however, (which serves as a prequel to Pitch Black) provides the greatest evidence that Riddick's eyeshine may be more than just something he picked up in a prison. After helping a character called "Pope Joe" retrieve his "blessed voice box," Riddick goes into a den to get stitches for an injury. After he is finished getting stiched-up, the "Pope" tells him how to escape, and warns Riddick not to "trust his eyes". At that very moment a ghostly voice tells him "You have been blind for far too long, Riddick...so I'm going to give you a gift...." From that moment on, Riddick has the ability to see in darkness. in my opinion Furyans should have two sets of racial traits one for regular furyans and one for Alpha Furyans. Regular Furyans +4str +4dex +4 Con +2 Cha a Furyan is much more powerful then a human and much more Intimidating then a half-orc with a big axe since they are a nearly extinct spiritual warrior race Alpha Furyan: +8str +8dex +8Con +4Cha a Alpha Furyan is much more powerful then a human or regular Furyan and much more Intimidating then a his kin since they are the leaders of their nearly extinct spiritual warrior race. that's just my opinion though base on what I know of the Chronicles of Riddick universe. Roland_of_the_Eld just curious if you going to make a Furyan race are you going to make the Necromongers? |

| JD4402-24-07, 10:21 PM | Well, given his rather good ability to Hide and Move silently. His dual wielding small blades. and his sneak attacking most of the time as the initial attack. Favored class would more likely be Rogue. |
| JD4402-24-07, 11:10 PM | In my opinion this would be rather close. Furyans as Characters Humanoid (extrapaner) Furyan characters possess the following racial traits. • Str: +2 Dex: +2 Con: +2 Cha: -2 • Medium size. • A Furyans base land speed is 40 feet. • Darkvision: Furyans can see in the dark up to 60 feet. • Racial Skills: Furyans have a +2 racial bonus on Spot and Listen checks. • Racial Feats: A Furyan gains Endurance as a bonus feat. • Spell Like Ability (see Below): Jump • Automatic Languages: Common, Undercommon. Bonus Languages: Draconic, Dwarven, Gnome, Goblin, Infernal, Orc. • Twilight Blindness: During twilight hours (5-7) Furyans have trouble focusing their eyes and are dazzled as long as they remain in the affected area. • Favored Class: Rogue • Level adjustment +1. Jump (Sp) A Furyan can use Jump once per day as a 1st-level caster or a caster of his class levels, whichever is higher. |
| spectralphoenix02-24-07, 11:28 PM | I think you have to keep in mind that Riddick himself was probably a high or maybe even epic level character who had rolled good abilities. Using him as a baseline is like deriving an "average" human from Sherlock Holmes or Aragorn. I'd say the race itself would be LA +1 or +2, and most of Riddick's abilities are either unique or a result of his high level (probably a barbarian/rogue, in D&D terms. Maybe some Ranger.) |
| unusualsuspect02-24-07, 11:33 PM | type: humanoid (extrapaner) stronger: +2 str faster: +2 dex tougher: +2 con more resistant to injury: NA+1 acute senses: +2 search / spot / listen immense stamina: endurance feat recover more quickly: natural healing goes twice as fast Level Adjustment: +1 (seeing that hobgoblin is a weak+1) fav. class probably fighter (i mean, look at the stats) all other information (like charisma penalty, is bogus: charsima is yust riddicks dumpstat) I agree that probably captures furyons pretty well... but I disagree that charisma is riddick's dump stat. Say what you will about his bedside manner, so to speak, but the man has presence by any understanding of the word. The guy oozes self-confidence, power, and control. And he can intimidate the **** outta pretty much anybody. Remember, people, being a jackass doesn't mean your charisma sucks, it means you're a jackass. And Riddick was a jackass. |
| The Crystal Mind02-25-07, 12:20 AM | I agree that Furyans should get Diehard as a racial bonus feat. In "the Chronicles of Riddick", that necromonger Furyan catches up with Riddick on Crematoria, talks to him, then kills himself by walking into the blazing planet surface. Even when he's nearly bones, he still gets up and walks another few paces. If that's not a diehard guy, I don't know what is. |
| The Crystal Mind03-06-07, 11:04 AM | bibbity bobbity :bump: |
