As with any race that has racial HD, you can choose to take racial HD instead of class levels. In many cases this means increasing in size.

I have an old werebear that I've been reworking just for fun and I was wondering if by taking racial HD I could go from medium human to huge hybrid/bear. I don't think it's going to work because lycanthrope says that the target form must be within one size category of the base.

I just wanted to post this to find out everyone elses opinions and views. I know it can be done with powers/spells/items, and it's really not a concern. Just an intriguing idea.

Normally this is not the case for PCs. There are only rules for how much a creature's CR is increased when advancing its number of racial HD; there are no similar rules for how a PCs level adjustment increases when doing the same.

And, the whole advancement line is for creatures born or created stronger than a normal member of the race. The flavor of it works pretty poorly when taking the HD later..

In other words, it's completely up to your DM :)
