So I'm working on a race of intelligent birds, and need some feed back, and ideas. Gamaya Gamaya are intelligent birds that dwell on the astral plane. Gamaya have nesting grounds on other planes, including most notably the prime, from which their ancestors hailed. The language of the gamaya sounds like the melodious song of a song bird, however like parrots they can mimic human speech, and are capable of speaking human languages. Gamaya Society Gamaya are very social beings, and live in beautiful ancient cities. Their cities are a bastion of neutrality, open to all. The greatest strength, and worse flaw of gamaya society is that it stands strongly neutral, allowing for diverse beings to intermingle, but they are also stubborn against breaking their neutrality even when necessary. Little hierarchy exists within gamaya society, and what classes do exist in gamaya society are relatively easy to move up and down within. A degree of wealth from the wealthiest of gamaya is also redistributed to those that have little, an economic practice that some non-gamaya (and even a few gamaya) are uncomfortable with. The arts, particularly music, are very much valued within their society, but knowledge is even more highly valued, and gamaya tend to be very intellectual. Though gamaya usually spend some time adventuring within the astral plane for the sake of learning, they are unlikely to journey outside it for long periods of time. The longest period of time most gamaya spend outside the astral plane, is when they are nesting, and then waiting for their young to mature. That they have some reptillian traits along with their avian ones has led some to believe that they may be distantly related to cockatrice. Aging Gamaya mature a bit more quickly than humans, usually at 13 years of age, but there after age the same way humans do. Physical description Gamaya are built similarly to pheasants, and are mostly featherless, with skin covered in fine scales that are usually metallic colors, such as gold, or silver, but occasionally black or white. Their arms extend into feathery wings, and atop their heads is a mane of feathers, their tails are long and lizard-like, but are tipped with feathers. They have hands which end in four clawless digits and feet that have dull talons. The feathers of a gamaya are typically white. As is common for birds female gamaya are slightly larger, and tend to be slightly stronger built than males. A gamaya’s face looks somewhat parrot or owl-like. Gamaya typically stand about three feet tall, and are around 7 feet long from tip of beak to tip of tail. A male gamaya usually weighs about 60 pounds, and females usually around 65. Gamaya traits Medium size Type: magical beast (extraplanar) Speed: 30 feet +2 intelligence, -2 strength Gamaya are very intelligent, but weakly built. Spot +2, +2 on rolls to mimic someone else’s voice, or a bird’s call. Keen vision: In daylight gamaya can see twice as far as humans. Gliding/weak flight: Because of their underdeveloped flight muscles, gamaya are poor fliers. However a gamaya can glide. A gliding gamaya suffers no falling damage. They can also move forward at 30 feet for every 5 feet of descent. A gamaya that gets a running start (must run for at least one round) can fly at 30 feet with poor maneuverability for rounds equal to their constitution score (to a minimum of 1) before they must land or begin gliding (they must land before they attempt to fly again). Gamaya cannot fly if they have more than a light load. If they have more than a medium load their glide ability is reduced to a feather fall. Gamaya cannot fly if they are fatigued. Wing aided movement: A gamaya with unrestricted wings can use them to gain a +4 on jump and balance. Alignment: usually true neutral Favored class: ? Not sure what it should be.
