Gold Dragon Age Progression? [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-19-07, 11:39 PM I'm currently playing in an Epic level game and I was looking forward to procuring a cohort. I'm thinking of getting a dragon, but I was just wondering if there was any way I could get a dragon that isn't a juvenile as a cohort? If not, would a Juvenile Gold Dragon be a better investment than my current Pixie cohort? (Both are +4 LAs)

03-20-07, 01:49 AM A juvenile gold dragon is LA+6, IIRC, for a total ECL of 20.
I would say it ultimately depends on what you are looking for in a cohort. A pixie and a dragon each serves different purposes.

Though you can always take the pixie cohort with leadership and nab a gold dragon with the draconic cohort feat.:)

My original intent was to get a pixie thrallherd to get another cohort, then pick up draconic leadership. But I've decided that would be -way- too much hassle for my DM every time it comes to my round. (By the way, I'm a wizard with a familiar and a spell that gives my familiar the power to cast low level spells by himself.)

My original intent was to get a pixie thrallherd to get another cohort, then pick up draconic leadership. But I've decided that would be -way- too much hassle for my DM every time it comes to my round. (By the way, I'm a wizard with a familiar and a spell that gives my familiar the power to cast low level spells by himself.) Efficient clerics are powerful melee fighters. However, a gold dragon mount has the "cool factor" that a high-level character should have, and can easily duplicate a cleric with its huge spell list.

If you're really just looking for a good healer to help in melee, get a plain old human cleric instead (Strength and Magic domains for maximum power and versatility).
