| cpn_creepo04-01-07, 02:28 PM | I'm working on a game world, and I want to introduce a race of bird-men into my game. I'm making them a flying race, as well as a LA +0 race. You may say that this is a bad idea, but I've got a good idea for it. They'll have to earn their ability to fly. I already have fluff written up on why this is. Basically, their ancestors where very prideful, and they boasted upon their ability to fly to the local humans so much that it angered the spirits of their ancestors, and thus their ability to fly had been stripped of them. So, now they have to earn the right to fly. My question is, is what level should they be able to regain this ability? I was kinda thinking at about level 10, they're visited by an ancestor spirit that'll instruct them what they need to do to regain their ability. Is 10 too soon? Too late? |

| Bluescale04-02-07, 06:17 AM | Or, for a potentially broken example, there are the anthropomorphic bats and ravens in Savage Species, who have the ability to fly at level 1 with no LA (and the anthropomorphic bats have average flight). |

True it is "potentially" but not really in my experence. They have a Crippiling slow base land speed and their flight speed means they can keep up with a party. if they get forced to the ground they are done for in any tactical fight or trying to escape. |
