| Talisman07-15-07, 11:09 PM | So we're planning a gestalt campaign, and I intend to play a sorcerer/ranger. For background reasons, I want to play some sort of elvish/fey-type race, and I am seeking advice from you race-experts. Appearance of the race in question is less important that the stats, as I can always describe it however I want (within reason). My primary goal is to get decent boosts in Cha and Str, with possibly some boosts in Wis, Dex and/or Con. I want to keep the LA down as much as possible...definitely below +4. Here are the options I've come up with so far: Elf Positive: Immediately recognizeable. Lots of elf-specific stuff available. Boost to Dex. Sylvan theme. Negative:Penalty to Con No boost to Cha Aasimar (described as elvish/feylike) Positive: Boosts to Cha and Wis No penalties to other stats Daylight SLA Energy resistances Outsider type Negative: No boosts to phsyical stats Killoren (from Races of the Wild) Positive: Fey type No penalties to stats Useful special abilities Negative:No boosts to stats Weird aspect of nature abilities (cool, bu weird) Variant race; i.e., no support material Celadrin (elf/eladrin planetouched from Dragon #350) Positive: Boosts to Dex and Cha Outsider type Scorching ray SLA Fire resistance Negative: Penalty to Con It might also be possible to combine aasimar stats with those of another race...my group is pretty lenient about rules, as long as the finished product isn't broken. Thoughts, suggestions, ideas, opinions? |

Also, the skill points help you round out your skill selection (since your classes don't really share any of their skills). It also has 0 level adjustment, which means you don't have to suffer from held-back spellcaster or held-back BAB. How do you reconcile having both a familiar and animal companion? |

Since most of the team will probably have LAs, maybe if I do that I can afford the celestial template... How do you reconcile having both a familiar and animal companion? Actually, I plan to have neither. I'm going to take the "Metamagic Master" (or whatever it's called) variant sorcerer ability from PHB2 that let me cast metamagic'd spells as a standard action, and the ranger thing from PHB2 that lets me sort of "phantom flank" (next ally treat the foe as flanked after I hit 'em). |
