| Sotha_syl06-20-07, 02:01 AM | One of my player's has a solid characer idea for a Grig Wizard/Rogue/Arcane Trickster that I think can work out if we try and make it balanced. Grigs are in the Monster Manual under Sprite, and are tiny fey that are like cricket people. They are a CR 1 and so I don't even know if they would have much of a level adjustment, but perhaps I could get suggestions on how to handle this... Any ideas on what the stats and racial abilities/traits should be, including the fey DR and all the spell like abilities, plus what + and - to stats there should be. Any help is appreciated, and my question mark key is broken so shush. :P |
| Omega_Grey06-20-07, 02:18 AM | Well my monster manual has them listed as a level adjustment of 3. Stats should be adjusted as follows Str:-6 Dex:+8 Con:+2 Int:+0 Wis:+2 Cha:+4 Spell Like Abilities as Follows, all at three times per day and caster level 9 (3/day, CL 9 if you will): Disguise Self, Entangle (save dc =11+Cha Mod), Invisibility (Self Only), Pyrotechnics (dc=12+Cha Mod), and Ventriloquism (dc=11+Cha Mod) They also have the Fiddle ability (supernatural), which is as follows: Each (non-sprite) creature within 30 feet of the grig that is playing its fiddle must succeed on a DC 10+Cha Mod Will save or be affected as though by Otto's Irresistible Dance for as long as the grig plays. And in addition to that the grig also has DR 5/Cold Iron, Low-light vision, Spell Resistance 17, a +8 racial bonus to jump checks, +5 racial bonus to move silently checks in a forest, and 40 foot fly speed (poor maneuverability). And they're Tiny (no reach, must enter an opponents square, +2 to attacks and AC, +8 to Hide checks, -8 to grapple checks, and carry 1/2 that of a medium character). Whoo...Does that help at all? |

You swap out its 1st fey HD for a class lv, so it will not have any racial HD. You get the following... -6str, +8dex, +2con, +2wis, +4cha dr5/cold iron low light vision dodge and weapon finesse as bonus feats sr of 17+class lv +2NA base speed 20ft, fly 40ft (poor) SLAs/special abilities as listed in their entry The rest are as your class lvs.:) |
| Omega_Grey06-20-07, 02:32 AM | Oh I missed the natural armor, good catch. |
| The_Shaman06-20-07, 03:48 AM | Grigs have listed SR as 17, but I suppose that if we use the pixie for example, it would be 17+character level. Which, btw, is quite high. The main problem is that a tiny character can have a problem using many tools and will probably have a harder time getting proper weapons and armor. |
| runestar06-20-07, 04:09 AM | I could have sworn Savage Species lists their sr as 17+class lv. Can anyone confirm this for me?:) |
| Omega_Grey06-20-07, 04:33 AM | Actually the Savage Species has it listed as 13+class level, which means the grig class level it is under. Which coincidently maxes out at 17. (Please note it says class not character level) |
| The_Shaman06-20-07, 07:36 AM | IIRC SS does not list pixie's SR as progressing either. I would thus tend to take it with a grain of salt on the issue. It is 3.0 material, I think, so it needs a bit of updating every now and then. |
