Well actually this could involve all races with a specific hit die. Im not 100% sure how hit die on races and classes work. I know how, say, a human fights hp would be calculated, but Im wondering how a half-dragons life would be calculated, assuming the half dragon is half human. The half dragon template requires the hit die of the base race to increase by one die level. Humans have a die level of one right? So would I increase it to 4? or 2? Im just a little confused on how i would calculate all this and exactly what I am supposed to do. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

That is only referring to racial hit dice, not those gained from classes. In your example, a human half-dragon fighter would use d10 hit dice because it's a fighter. If you apply the half dragon template to a creature with racial hit dice, then the die type increases by one size (from a d4 to a d6, a d6 to a d8, d8 to d10, and d10 to d12). I hope that answers your question.

I believe humans have a d8 HD, so if you were making a human half-dragon with no class levels, it would have 1d10 hp instead of 1d8. However, if you take a class, it will replace your racial HD (1d8 for a normal human, or 1d10 for half-dragon) with the class HD. For most characters, the half-dragon modifying HD will not have any effect, because all your HD come from your class and not your race.

Where do they list core race's HD? If a human has a racial HD of 1d8, what do elves and halflings get?

All humanoid races, from elves to dwarfs, have a d8 for hitdice, as stated clearly in the Monster Manual Glossary.

:EDIT: Just wondering how does a half-dragons LA, or any LA affect feats gained and ability increases?
