The monster manual has hit dice, level adjustments, and everything else you would need for a dragon as a player character.

I heard rumors that there is a book called "Monster Manual", A.K.A. "Core Rule Book III" that has the rules for that!

Savage species, it covers the dragons broken down into a pc like level system, if he really wants to play a dragon that is the rout to go.

Draconomicon would be my first choice for including dragons in the campaign. Alongside with the MM, of course, but the core 3 go without saying.

That magazine is #320 for metallics and 332 for chromatics

Keep in mind that as a full-blooded dragon, their role is more akin to that of a bard's role (jack of all trades--master of none), opposed to a tank. Dragon possess GREAT variability, but they really aren't specialized in any one area.

However, given a good intellect, and UMD as a racial class skill ... they can fill in for a basic healer, given ample supplies of wands. Their greatest strength is, more than likely, with their sheer mobility.

What class does he want and what Age Category does he want to be?
