OK, im wanting to make a character that wields 2 greatswords (or fullblades if possible). I found the Half-giant and i thought his Powerful build would work great for this. Only problem is i cant have a level adjustment. So, could i get some help lowering the LA to 0. BTW hes from Expanded Psionic if somebody didnt know. If nothing else, i may just switch to 2 mauls :) but HUGE swords just sound plain fun...

Well, I'm pretty sure the only way to lower it's LA would be to actually get rid of Powerful Build (and either the +2 STR or the 2 CON)... Also, Powerful Build doesn't let you do what you think it lets you do. You would not be able to use it to let you wield a greatsword one-handed without taking the usual penalties for inappropriately sized weapons... Also, fullblades don't exist in 3.5; they're a 3.0 relic that doesn't translate into the new weapon sizing rules.

With powerful build, it says that they are abel to wield larger weapons without penalty. and im pretty sure there was 3.5 fullblade somwhere, cant think of where tho. Besides a large Bastard sword is a fullblade in damage.

Three things: One, no you can't really decrease the LA and hope to wield that stuff. Two, fullblades are in the Arms and Equipment guide. Three, Powerful build does not allow you to use innapropriately sized weapons like that. Crimson_Concerto is correct, in that it doesn't allow you to treat weapons as lighter, but allows you to use weapons intended and sized for large characters. You upgrade the d10 of a bastardsword to 2d8 of a large bastardsword.

If you don't want the LA, get monkey grip as a human, it's in C. Warrior. Monkey grip allows you to use weapons intended for large characters with a -2, it is a -2, but there goes your LA.

If you insist on dual wielding two bastardswords, be a human, take monkeygrip, two weapon fighting and oversized two weapon fighting (C. Adventurer) You get a -4, (-2 from two weapons, -2 from large weapons) but you get your two bastardswords that do 2d8 each. There you go.
Oversized Two Weapon fighting takes away penalties for wielding a one handed (as opposed to light) in your off hand.

Also, your grammar and/or spelling could use a lot of work.

I'm not trying to be mean, just critical, take none of this personally.

Don't forget EWP Bastard Sword

What exactly is a fullblade?

Monkey grip does not allow you to wield a larger than normal weapon in your off hand.

you wield whatever sized weapons you're able to wield. just because you take penalties for using non-light weapons in your off hand dosent mean its completely off limits.

but seriously dude... overcompensation much?

If you're a large sized creature, you can already wield two fullblades effectively...

Did you even read in the description where it says a large creature can wield it in one hand if they have the proficiency?

Yes a large creature can wield a fullblade in one hand if they have EWP but to wield a second one they would also need the oversized two-weapon fighting feat to reduce the penalties for fighting with two weapons.

so then, why is it a half giant couldnt use 2 with the approprate feats?

They can by taking EWP to use the fullblade one handed, the oversized two-weapon fighting feat you would reduce the penalties from -4/-4 to -2/-2.

Okay, the (generally) accepted 3.5 version of the 3.0-only fullblade is a Large bastard sword. Wielding it one-handed without a penalty requires the wielder to be Large size and have the EWP: Bastard Sword feat. The half-giant is treated as Large for the purposes of wielding weapons, so all he needs is EWP to wield one fullblade without penalty, treating it as a one-handed weapon. To wield a second fullblade, he'll usually take -6/-10 penalties to his primary and off-hand attacks (respectively). With the TWF and Oversized TWF feats those penalties drop to -2/-2. There is no way to reduce those penalties further.

Also, your grammar and/or spelling could use a lot of work.Devigod, it could be worse. Much, MUCH worse. There's no need to be rude, especially since legibility is the only pragmatic standard for internet forum grammar. In some forums, seemingly random strings of characters from the entire ASCII spectrum are actually completely legible, and as such completely legitimate, to the average viewer.

agree'd with many of the above. i don't see any erratas for the Arms and Equipment book, so they never got officially transfered. you need to talk to your DM and see if he will let you update them in his game.

also the fullblade never had anything about a "wield one-handed" like the bastard sword does.

Zook, like said before, if you would read the whole thing in th Arms and Equipment guide, it says a large character can wield it one handed with a -4 non-proficiency penalty, or EWP fullblade for one handed use. So, basically my idea works perfectly. Only problem left is wondering how to lower the LA to 0, i thought about taking away all other abilities, take away +2 con, add -2 Cha, add +2 intimidate, -2 to all other charisma checks, and not add the psionics stuff to them. maybe leave a littel dark vision from giant... anything else?

I've been playing DnD since I was a little kid and DM'ing even longer now, and I don't see absolutely -any- reason why he can't use the Fullblade from 3.0.

It's only an oversized weapon to a medium creature. To a large creature, if you take specifically a feat called "Fullblade proficiency" it wouldn't be any different than say, a medium creature holding a longsword in one hand, now would it?

I mean, it's an oversized weapon sure, but... Not to a large creature. That's why they can effectively wield it in one hand, and thats why it says you need the Fullblade proficiency feat, to be SPECIFIC, to do it. You can't just take EWP and say, "lol fullblade one hand, hurr." Your character needs to be trained with the Fullblade and the Fullblade only. It's just -that- unwieldy. My friends Ogre barbarian/berserker had two magical Fullblades to which he wielded fine with the profiency, two weapon fighting and improved two weapon fighting, especially with his strength score and BAB.

I honestly don't see a problem here, but, maybe I'm just a little ignorant.

getting rid of the LA of half giants is easy. take away powerful build. thats what gives them LA.

otherwise, seek cheese elsewhere.

why are you asking us then? talk to your DM, ultimately its his choice to accept that cheese ;)

Assuming this was directed at me, Monkey Grip specifically says that it does not function with a weapon used in your off hand or with a double weapon.

Re-read the Benefit description of the feat, it's the last sentence before the Normal entry. Page 103 Complete Warrior.

Ironic though, in that you're correcting a man with the name Rulebook...
Regardless, I don't see the need for this thread anymore, honestly.

i was refering to half-giants and powerful build actually. half giants get no benifit from monkey grip anyway.
