| Drewcifer998404-08-07, 02:11 AM | Can anyone please tell me the stats of a half iron golem, its LA, and the will saves it must make? (i keep hearing about the saves, but know one tells what they are) Plot Idea: I'm making a character thats father was a would be mad scientist, a crazy transmuter who f-ed up an experiment on his on son, costing his son an arm and a leg. So he decides to graft an iron arm and leg (yes...like Full Metal Alchemist) ...Also if his father did this, is there a way he could guarantee is son to pass the whole fail and turn to a construct thing? |
| Everdreaming04-08-07, 03:08 AM | I dont think you can have a natural half golem, as golems are constructs and cannot reproduce. You could probably make a type of half golem, for example, a humaniod with partial golem traits, but it would not be the result of natural reproduction. |
| Everdreaming04-08-07, 03:11 AM | I know what I just said was not quite relevant to your question, but I felt the need to say it, incase any idiots came along. That said, I dont think there would be a way to make sure the son was still alive and functioning normally(albeit with replacement limbs). If he was alive and well, I dont think he would have construct template, as he would not be utterly controlled by his father. |
| Drewcifer998404-09-07, 01:24 PM | What about magic immunity? In MM2 it doesn't explain if you get it just on a failed save turned construct, or even if you save and stay humanoid. Whats your opinion on LA? in the MM it just has challenge rating +3? I had a friend that told me thats the same thing as LA, is he right? |
| Thomar_of_Uointer04-09-07, 01:41 PM | *taps the Code of Conduct link at the top of the page* There are several safeguards to failing the initial save to become a half golem. Wish is a no-fail effect, while resistance is very minor but can help. Half-golems have no LA because of the whole "save-or-become-an-NPC" effect, they aren't meant to be PCs. What about magic immunity? In MM2 it doesn't explain if you get it just on a failed save turned construct, or even if you save and stay humanoid. I believe it says that they get traits specific to the construct part. Whats your opinion on LA? in the MM it just has challenge rating +3? I had a friend that told me thats the same thing as LA, is he right? Your friend is wrong. Challenge Rating determines the relative power of a creature in a single encounter as an enemy. Level Adjustment determines the impact of a character on a party. Take cure minor wounds at will as an example, dead useless in a fight except for stabilizing dying allies, makes you everybody's best friend in a long adventure. |
| Engilbrand04-09-07, 05:00 PM | They have stated that the Half-Golem template should not receive an LA. It's not appropriate for player characters. Check the MM2 update booklet on the site. |
| LeuktheSavior04-09-07, 08:20 PM | Although if you play as a Half golem, it doesnt really need a level adjustment because where it gains all those special abilities, if it gets hurt, its pretty much screwed and out of commission for a long time. MY half clay golem for example, is a bruiser and a half, immune to stabbing and piercing, DR10/silver, and all that jazz, but once he takes damage, he's screwed. they can only heal up to 20 points a day, 50gp per a point healed, and thats only if they can find somebody that can work on them for an extended period. being immune to magic that provokes spell resistance is also a nasty side effect. sure that means a dragons breath, and most attack magics dont work, but the same goes with healing magics and most buffing magics. Then of course, you cant run, and your intelligence goes down by six, and i cant think of any character that would enjoy sacrificing that much intelligence. |
| penchant04-09-07, 11:35 PM | Actually, half golems will heal the same way as regular golems: with elemental magic. For instance, the iron golem (and half golem who has the same magic immunity) will heal 1HP for evey 3 points of fire damage it takes. So your friend the warmage is your healer instead of the priest. As far as what you can play, thats up to your DM. Wizards makes lots of recommendations about what they intended, but people will do as they wish to. Especially if it results in a bonus. Myself, I would love to play a half golem in some games. As a DM I would never allow it unless it was specifically one of "those" kinds of games. |
| Drewcifer998404-10-07, 12:09 AM | So say i'm playing a Half Golem character in a campaign allowing 3rd lvl characters. I could play for instance a level 3 wizard with the half golem abilities on top of that with no LA? (having saved and stayed humanoid and not become a construct of course) I just want to be sure thats what your saying As for healing. If I have made the saves and stayed a humanoid, then I should be able to regain hp through resting the 8 hours right? (i understand why the magic healing wouldn't work now) Does the fire still heal you to if you saved and are not a construct? and how do you heal with fire if your immune to magic? <- in response to the Warmage becoming your healer comment, how would that work? |

If an LA exists, it's somewhere between +6 and +15, depending on the golem type. As for healing. Yes and torches. |

Your DM would have to estmate the LA, but the +6 estimate (above) would be about right. Without the construct subtype you would indeed heal by resting, but with your LA your HD would be very low and sleep would keep your Character out of 2/3 of the encouhters. The healing is a factor of your magic immunity, not from construct traits. As to the warmage: you are down 30 hit points. warmage casts 10D6 fireball at you dealing 39 points of damage. you are now healed 13 points. Repeat as necessary. |
| Drewcifer998404-10-07, 02:11 PM | A warmage could not heal you with any kind of fire magic if your immune to it. It would have to be some kind of natural fire, like a torch. As for the LA, then there would be no way of being able to play the character as a 3rd lvl unless the DM says "F" it, right? With Damage Reduction 25/+2 i don't think he'd be out 2 out of 3 times, unless he'd be hit by too many criticals, and even then bring out a torch for some burn healing, which would probably do about 1d6 fire dmg aka healing Yaa ! |
| penchant04-10-07, 05:23 PM | The fire healing applies only to the Half Iron Golem, since that is the one who has the feature listed under magic immunity. It is immune to all magic EXCEPT fire (which heals) and electricity (which slows). This does not apply to any other form of half golem as their magic immunities are each different. For instance, if you had a Half Clay Golem then acid damage would instead heal it (and be vulnerable to move earth, earthquake and disintegrate). You have to reference the MM1 for the specific entries on magic immunity for each type of golem. |
| Drewcifer998404-10-07, 06:09 PM | Thanks for the help on magic, I also then looked it up in MM1, lol my bad. Earlier in the thread i posted "LA? in MM1 it just has challenge rating +3" I would think that for determining the level of the character, would then mean your level +3. I know what the challenge rating means but in this case wouldn't it (or can it) be the half golems LA? |
