| Yar02-26-07, 05:20 PM | Ok i was thinking that there might be about time to make a half human template. I used bothe half elves and half orks as models for this template. Please tell me what you all think. HALF HUMAN Some scholars believe that humans are the Ancestral default of all humanoid races. This is evident in half orks and half elves. Such speculation has caused less scrupulous sages to conduct breeding experiments with unwilling participants to create various humanoid hybrids. There have been varying results but with regards to humanoid interbreeding there have been stunning success. Creating A Half Human Half human is an inherited template which may be applied to any Humanoid, monstrous humanoid, or giant (or other roughly humanoid shaped creatures that reproduce sexualy such as a fey.). The base creatures type changes to hominoid with no subtypes. The creatures size is changed to medium Unless the base creature was tiny or smaller in which case its size is small. Huge or larger creatures become large. adjust all attributes to its new size. Recalculate BAB as per a humanoid. Size: The creature size remains unchanged unless the base creature was large sized or bigger. reduce the creatures size to medium. Hit dice: The creatures hit dice changes to d8 as a humanoid all Half humans have d8’s for hit dice. Half humans have ½ the hit dice of the base creature. Speed: 30 ft the creatures base speed becomes 30 ft. Ac: The creatures looses ½ its natural armor bonus round down. Damage: As base creature but adjusted for its new size. Special Attacks: As base creature but see below. Spell like abilities: The base creature looses all spell like abilities which have a Finite number of uses per day. All spell like abilities which are useable an unlimited number of times per day are restricted to 1 use per day. Extraordinary and supernatural: These abilities are reduced to ½ their potency but are otherwise unchanged. Special Qualities: As base creature with the changes as per those above. (Blank) Blood: For all effects related to race, a half-human is considered an a member of its non human parent species. Saves: As per a humanoid Plus any gained from class. Abilities: After adjusting the creature’s statistics for its new size lower all bonuses and penalties by 2. Skills: As per Humanoid or by class. Feats: as per a humanoid or by class Climate/terrain: as base creature. Organization: Solitary Challenge Ratting: AS base creature -2 Level Adjustment: As base creature -2 With a minimum ECL of +0 Treasure: AS base creature Alignment: Any but usually that of base creature. Advancement: By character class. Favored Class: If the Half human template removed all ability bonuses and penalties the creatures Favored class is ANY if not the favored class is that of the base creature. HALF GNOME Medium: Half Gnomes are medium sized and suffer no penalties or bonuses because of it. Gnome base land speed is 30 feet. Low-Light Vision: A gnome can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination. He retains the ability to distinguish color and detail under these conditions. Weapon Familiarity: Gnomes may treat gnome hooked hammers as martial weapons rather than exotic weapons. +2 dodge bonus to Armor Class against monsters of the giant type. Any time a creature loses its Dexterity bonus (if any) to Armor Class, such as when it’s caught flat-footed, it loses its dodge bonus, too. +1 racial bonus on Listen checks. +1 racial bonus on Craft (alchemy) checks. Gnome Blood: For all effects related to race, a half-Gnome is considered an a Gnome. Automatic Languages: Common and Gnome. Bonus Languages: Draconic, Dwarven, Elven, Giant, Goblin, and Orc. In addition, a gnome can speak with a burrowing mammal (a badger, fox, rabbit, or the like, see below). This ability is innate to gnomes. See the speak with animals spell description. Favored Class: Any. A multiclass gnome’s Highest level class does not count when determining whether he takes an experience point penalty. |

| AMGriffin02-26-07, 08:28 PM | That template is way undepowered. Like that half-gnome. It's utterly useless! It quite literally is weaker then a kobold. |
| Part-Human202-26-07, 10:17 PM | That template is way undepowered. Like that half-gnome. It's utterly useless! It quite literally is weaker then a kobold. That half-gnome, acording to the template would start with 3 class levels at ECL 1, so he's 2 levels ahead of everyone else. Also, the template can be applied to humans and other half-humans. It simple doesn't make sense. |
| enygmatic_me02-26-07, 10:52 PM | The reason their isn't a half-human template is as much about the mechanics of the game as it is about the roleplay. Saying that Humans are the default race that all races a gauged by is not just a "role-playing" concept. Humans, mechanically, are the foundation of the racial mechanics. Think of them as the single celled organism that all life sprang from. OK, that may have been a little philosophical in approach, but it hopefully helps illustrate the point. I personally think that half-elf, half-orc, and maybe a couple other half-races should be templates and not races (where Orc should have been a player race in the PHB) on to themselves, but half-human isn't one of them. |
| Yar02-27-07, 02:53 AM | true half gnomes are weak. But look at the half elf it is similarly weak. Also i never meant for there to be "Negitive level adjustment." I guess i was going more for for the fact that half elves are so wimpy and still a "Balanced race" I never meant it to be a super spiffy template it was more for guidlines for a new type of character to rollplay. Comparitivly the half gnome is no weaker than the half ork or the half elf. Hoever the template should have another special power. (Blank) Blood: Orc Blood: For all effects related to race, a half-human is considered an a member of its non human parent species. yar |
| AMGriffin02-27-07, 06:40 PM | I don't like that philosophy whatsoever. In fact, I generally don't like templates. |
| JulesCARV02-28-07, 12:25 AM | It seems that, when combined with a +2 LA template, it's a bit strong. Take a phrenic half-human gnome, for instance. For LA +0, you get a race with power resistance, a mess of psi-like abilities, +4 charisma, +2 wisdom and intelligence, etc. Or am I misunderstanding the template? BTW: why does the sample half-human gnome have favored class "bard?" Shouldn't it be favored class "any," given the lack of ability score modifiers? |
| darklogic02-28-07, 02:24 AM | Half Human as a template is unecessary. If you look inside Races of Destiny, you'll see there is both a feat and a sidebar that adress the issue of roleplaying a "nonstandard half human" humanoid race as being of human descent. As these are not open liscence I cannot post them here, but effectively there is a feat that a character may take to be more fully human. |
| Yar02-28-07, 03:32 AM | Your right the half Gnome should have any as a favored class (Kicks self in Butt) Not to diss on races of destiny but haveing to blow a feat to change your species seems kinda weird to me. This template i guess was more desigined to make the creation of hybrids a bit more standard and stable. Sort of a springing point for players to create an interesting character. Also I fixed the errors on the template and example Species. Fighting the urge to do a half-Halfling (Quarterling anyone?) Yar |
