| Vrykolas2k03-20-07, 01:28 PM | I was wondering if one were to design a character of this type... would it necessarily need spell-like abilities, or simply be a different-looking and slightly superior (in some areas) version of the regular half-ogre? Certainly, it would probably have a Lawful allignment. Maybe regeneration, but I see little reason for the other abilities. |
| Ebonyte03-20-07, 02:49 PM | Nice name, Greek for Vampire, yes? Also part of the root word origin for "Virus". The Green Ronin book "Bastards and Bloodlines" has the template rules for a Wyrd, a half ogre mage, half elf. For more standard rules, try the Intermediate Ogre Bloodline in Unearthed Arcana. It says most of those are descended from ogre mages polymorphed to have a relationship. |

I skimmed through the Unearthed Arcana book once when it came out, seemed a bit munchkinny. Might have to make the stats up... |

I could play a full ogre mage, and only needed double XP to advance... Good luck with that, making a half-ogre mage lower then +3 LA is going to be quite a task because it's assured to the better then the traditional half-ogre which is pretty good for +2. If you're that worried about LA pains, I'd lower the LA to +2 and add one level in humanoid. |

Half-Ogres originally appeared in 3.x in the Savage Species supplement, where they were given a level adjustment of +1. In Races of Destiny, their LA was raised to +2. |
| Jaxgaret03-21-07, 05:53 PM | Hmm... maybe a quarter-breed might be the balance I'm looking for. Advice on stats? +1 LA would be great... So like a Planetouched, only with Ogre Mage ancestry? Ogretouched :D |
| TheCarrionCrawler03-21-07, 07:21 PM | Ogretouched :D That sounds dirty! :gah: :yuck: |
| Vrykolas2k03-22-07, 12:40 AM | So like a Planetouched, only with Ogre Mage ancestry? Ogretouched :D So... any ideas on how that would work? |
| Perun03-22-07, 02:36 AM | So... any ideas on how that would work? I think Eberron's accessory Secrets of Sarlona details such a race -- the eneko (I don't have the book yet, so I could be wrong). Here's a link (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/sarlona_gallery/103005.jpg) to the image from the SoS art gallery (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ag/20070212a&page=1). |
| mythSSK03-22-07, 02:46 AM | The Eneko from Secrets of Sarlona sounds close to what you're looking for. They have half-giant and ogre mage ancestry, and are LA +1. |
| Ogrebear03-22-07, 09:34 AM | According to Pathguy creator (http://www.pathguy.com/eberron.htm) the stats for an Eneko are [published for review only] Eneko • +2 constitution, +2 strength, -2 dexterity, -2 charisma • Ogre / half-giant crossbreed that breeds true; greenish tinge to skin • Darkvision 60 feet; low-light vision • +2 on bluff, diplomacy, and intimidate checks • +2 on saves vs. poison • All are proficient with longbow. • Medium size, but use large weapons without penalty; space and reach are as medium • Considered large for grappling, bullrishing, tripping, improved grab, getting swallowed whole • 1/day endire elements, pass without trace, caster level 1/2 HD minimum 1, save charisma-based I don't have the book so I am reliant on Pathguy's stats. The Eneko seem like a cross between Ogres and Half Giants with a dash of Ogre Mage in there. |

| AMGriffin03-22-07, 07:01 PM | I thought the half-ogre was LA +1? At least it is in the Dragonlance campaign book... It is in Dragonlance. The half-ogre in Races of Destiny is physically, much more ogre-like then humanlike. If you wanna use the variety fo half-ogre posted in Dragonlace, then a half-ogre mage could simply be: • +4 Strength, +2 Constitution, +2 Wisdom, +2 Intelligence, +2 Charisma. A half-ogre mage is born with a physique similar to that of the mundane half-ogre, but is born with an intellect, insight, and presence that exceeds the typical human. • Medium Size • A half-ogre mage's base land speed is 30 feet. • Low-light vision • Spell-Like abilities: Darkness 3/day.
