| sigea08-13-07, 12:05 AM | Hi, hopefully this is a quick question. I am building a feral half ogre and I was reading a thread that said something about that because a half ogre is a giant type and large, it get's bonuses to its strenght because it is large. Is this true? Or is this incorporated into the adjustements in Savage Species (+4 STR, -2 DEX, +2 CON, etc) under the half ogre entry? Am I missing something here or am I just going insane? or both :) |
| Lawlicron08-13-07, 09:20 AM | I don't think it would matter at the point where your DM oked you to play a 3.0 Half-Ogre with the feral template. Its already accounted for though. Have fun breaking the game. |
| Majick08-13-07, 11:27 AM | yeah... as Lawlicron said man, the Half-Ogre has been re-stated in Races of Destiny (a 3.5 book), it's +2 LA now, and the Feral Template is... for lack of better wording... not for player use... It make you way to powerful the a meager +1 LA I wouldn't recommend it, for fairness sake |
| Hellsbells08-13-07, 11:32 AM | I wouldn't recomend a feral half-ogre either. I'd recomend a feral, full blooded ogre of legend. If you're gonna break the game you might as well go all the way, right? |
| bloodtalon08-13-07, 02:55 PM | in SAVAGE SPECIES it says the feral template can only be added to a humaniod or monstrous humaniod. in the same book half orgers are considered giants. i do not have the other book it is in but by the SAVAGE SPECIES a half ogre can not be a feral and neither could a ogre. |
| sigea08-13-07, 08:20 PM | Thanks guys, all useful info. bloodtalon, your right, I guess I just need to make it a Half-Ogre and Half-Minotaur template from Dragon mag which allows you to retain your "monstrous humanoid". Minotaurs are monstrous humanoid right? |
| ToastedAmphibian08-13-07, 09:04 PM | Thanks guys, all useful info. bloodtalon, your right, I guess I just need to make it a Half-Ogre and Half-Minotaur template from Dragon mag which allows you to retain your "monstrous humanoid". Minotaurs are monstrous humanoid right? Now your just being ugly! Yes Minotaurs are monstrous humanoids. But seriously, be a half ogre gargoyle (Monstrous humanoid) Then you can fly, never need to eat/breath, but can chew on people just because you enjoy makeing them scream.... |
| zeratulcraft08-13-07, 09:22 PM | Since when is Gargoyle a template? |
| ToastedAmphibian08-13-07, 09:55 PM | Since when is Gargoyle a template? Since never? Since when is Minotaur a template? I was suggesting aplying the half-ogre template to a Gargoyle instead of the suggested Minotaur. |
| Lord Otaku08-14-07, 08:36 AM | Thanks guys, all useful info. bloodtalon, your right, I guess I just need to make it a Half-Ogre and Half-Minotaur template from Dragon mag which allows you to retain your "monstrous humanoid". Minotaurs are monstrous humanoid right? Yup. and just remember, if you are already Large before applying the Half-Ogre Template, than it's LA is 0. Have fun! :evillaugh :cheer: |
| speed662008-14-07, 03:58 PM | If I were you I would look at the Races of Destiny for the Half-Ogre race, it has +6 strength now instead of +4. The feral template to me isn't broken the negative 4 to intelligence and the role-playing aspect is hard to pull off and should hinder the PC. If you do role play you will have to use a character who is seen as everyone as a wild animal and has feral claws and features, not to mention has low intelligence and therefore cannot speak too many languages. The upside is the massive melee monster it is in adventuring. Also the feral template is very hard to pull off for lawful characters as well, but not impossible. WOTC accounts for role-playing in many of its creations such as the feral class. So I do not see it as broken but I am a player who tries to role-play as well. Regardless it is a fun template to play with, I had a feral ogre that had 4 intelligence and 2 charisma, therefore could only speak giant and was horrible in many social settings lol, a very fun character. He also had flaws and abyssal heritor feats to add to that, so he wasn't a socialite to say the least. And to answer your question the modifiers for being large are already worked into the race abilities. |
| speed662008-14-07, 04:01 PM | Also I understand that an ogre cannot be feral due to the rules and using the character as an example. The DM felt that a ogre could be feral under certain circumstances (house rule). |
| vegetalss408-14-07, 04:11 PM | Since when is Minotaur a template? Since never. But the half-Minotaur is. |
| DrRufio08-14-07, 04:25 PM | I really hope this thing is an NPC. |
| sigea08-14-07, 07:22 PM | Nope, not an NPC :D It is just a one off with my brothers who I haven't seen in six months and I am in their general area for work. This character will just be a blood thursty (in a CN sort of way) hulk who hunts for food and attacks whatever is in front of him when let off his chain. I probably should play a barbarian but I like the greathammer from the greyhorn minotaur and I also like the Roll with it feat. Should be a good laugh. Thanks for all your help. |
| ToastedAmphibian08-14-07, 11:41 PM | Since never. But the half-Minotaur is. Um, I was being sarcastic. People where talking about Minotaurs, and i said gargoyle, and someone said, "Since when is that a template!" and i responded with "Since when is Minotaur a template?" Implying that the real question was actually, "Why do you think i was talking about templates, what the hell are you talking about" That being said, tell me more about this half-Minotaur template....... (Not sarcastic, this time, just honestly curious) |
