They pretty much reappear at about the same age they died, and with some different features.

08-17-07, 10:49 PM well captain howdy, this has been debated a lot in this forum (according to my searches) it is indeed a loophole. But being as I have lingered on this race having a problem of my own with it, I can offer you my insight on the matter: It specifically says in the book that the soul is getting a second chance in life, and wording does tend to be confusing on this matter, but generally I concluded that he is born again, since it is a completely different race (if it was a class than it could have been multiclassed well: Bad character dying and being multied\prestiged back to life as a hellbred), furtheremore, if he were not reborn it would have opened up the possibility that not all of his past life are erased, not by memory but by XP, so that would mean you could play a hellbred born in epic levels, which would be a very powerful character, which WoTC seem to avoid creating (excluding Psionics...LOL) but my most concrete evidence that I can offer you is line 10 of the first paragraph about the Hellbred: "...this newborn creature...."

08-17-07, 10:56 PM Actually that is specifically the part that has me bent, that line you mentioned. That could mean newborn as in a baby or newborn creature as in it is a completely new being.

The main focus im getting at here is that even if the hellbred was epic level, age around 40, if he would still be that older age, but without a thing to show it. And then what about equipment?
maybe, RAW or not, the newborn baby idea is better simply for flavor purposes.

08-18-07, 12:58 AM well i have actually rechecked it and there is a contradiction saying that hellbreds have very little time for committing their ultimate good deed which will grant them their redemption (paraphrasing of course) so there is a point to what you say, so it all depends on your character level-if it is a 1st level character, make it a newborn and if it is a more advanced character, you can try to create a high level character (an evil one of course) , than "kill" it, apply all rules of characters dying, "ressurruct" it (keep in mind that this is the divine powers which ressurruct it-so probably no negative levels etc.) and then strip it of all her evil traits which coincide with the hellbred rules and also try and strip her of all things you find to be non-fair-to-have after death, and keep all other previous charactaristics, whether this is allowed is up to your DM.
furthermore, you can assume that there is no logic of a hellbred soul being reborn into a newborn, since growing up as one will be though, and the newborn will have no idea why he is being punished so much for nothing, so it can be theorized that WoTC ment for that character to return to its body but to erase his previous life style, leaving him with only faint conciousness of his experiences in the previous life (such as languages and flashbacks), so he can learn from his mistake,
sorry for not providing a better insight, but after all it is a loophole.

08-18-07, 09:04 AM I don't know whether you know this already, but I feel like I need to say it. The Hellbred abilities are not granted in addition to any previous racial abilities. It's a stand-alone race, not a template. Whatever race you were earlier, you lose all of its abilities (stat modifiers too) and gain the Hellbred racial advantages.

08-18-07, 12:35 PM Yes yes I realized this. Thinking further into it tho, that could lead to very interesting apperances. I love the idea of a paladin turned blackguard turned hellbred.
