Tequila_Sunrise 10-13-07, 01:08 AM	The title says it all. I'm going to play a shadowcaster in an upcoming game and I want a thematically appropriate race to use. The best I've been able to come up with is the shadowswyft (+1 LA), but I'd prefer +0 LA. My DM is willing to pare the shadowswyft down as a last resort, but I told him I'd ask around here first. Thanks!
bahamut920 10-13-07, 02:42 AM	Umm, I think there's an LA 0 Lesser Tiefling published somewhere that just doesn't have the energy resistances or something. With their racial darkness, I can see that working out. A hellbred (Fiendish Codex II) with the Spirit aspect might be appropriate, but you're playing a shadowcaster, not a warlock. Too bad the shadar-kai (Fiend Folio) are also LA +1... and 3 HD. Although you could easily create an LA 0 shadar-kai by stripping the racial HD and the Hide in Plain Sight ability from them, reducing the Hide bonus they get from +10 to maybe +4 or +6, maybe lessening the curse they have and calling it "half-shadar kai." Or a half-drow (Races of Faerun or Drow of the Underdark; the DotU version is pretty much a normal half-elf with a few differences in appearance IIRC) might be fun, and LA 0. That's all I can think of right now...
