Jack of All Trades 09-03-07, 12:08 PM	I really have no idea where to begin. I really like the races but I personally don't care for the way the look and the level advancement. But mostly the way they look. I was wondering if anybody would be interested in throwing something like this together, or at least helping me create a half gith. One thing I'm wondering about is. Do you think that the two gith races would filter out the same when when mingling with other species (ie. same abilities for half githzerai and half githyanki.) By the way. I'm personally more fond of the githyanki but I'm not really fond of the evil alignment.
imakuni67 09-04-07, 12:24 AM	A half-gith is pretty reasonable, I think it's kindof hinted that they are very human like. They are fairly close in abilities though I believe, so you could easily make a half-gith race. I'd steer away from a template though as they can't breed with everything like say...a dragon. I'd aim for either an ability penalty/boost with lots of abilities or +1 LA. Here is what I would do: Type: Humanoid (Extraplanar) Abilities: +2 Dex, +2 Wis Speed: 30 feet Naturally Psionic: Half-Giths gain 2 bonus power points at 1st level. This benefit does not grant them the ability to manifest powers unless they gain that ability through another source, such as levels in a psionic class. Skills: +2 Concentration, +2 Knowledge (The Planes) Psionics (Sp): Feather Fall and Clairaudience/Clairvoyance each 1/day, Manifester level equal to class level. Closed Mind: Bonus Feat (+2 versus psionics) Bonus Feat: Choose martial weapon profiency: Great Sword, Weapon Focus: Great Sword, Improved Unarmed Strike, Dodge, Psionic Body, Weapon Focus: Unarmed Strike. Languages: Common, Gith, bonus languages: Any Favored Class: Any LA: +1 Or if you really want to go without a LA... Medium Size Humanoid (Extraplanar) +2 Dex, -2 Int Speed: 30 feet Naturally Psionic: Half-Giths gain 1 bonus power point at 1st level. This benefit does not grant them the ability to manifest powers unless they gain that ability through another source, such as levels in a psionic class. Closed Mind: Bonus Feat (+2 versus psionics) Choose one: Githzerai heritage (Improved Unarmed Strike, psionic Feather Fall 1/day (manifester level 1/2 class level) or Githyanki heritage (psionic Clairaudience/Clairvoyance 1/day (manifester level 1/2 class level), Martial Weapon Proficiency: Greatsword) Languages: Common, Gith, bonus languages: Any Favored Class: Any

Shiftkitty 09-05-07, 03:12 PM	In the original Fiend Folio the Githyanki and Githzerai were described as being descended from a race of evil humanoids. A later publication identified the Githyanki as being half-elven, while yet another, later one described them as a sub-subrace of elves. Not quite knowing which to believe, I always mix a bit of elfishness in when concocting a Githyanki. Curiously, although the Githyanki and Githzerai are so closely related, the last two pubs I mentioned said nothing about how such an ancestry affects Githzerai.

Shiftkitty 09-06-07, 09:00 PM	Why the -2 Int on the non-LA version? Curious. I don't use LAs in my campaign. It's simply never become an issue. I know how they work, but what's the corellation between INT and the lack of an LA? Also, I think I'd make the favored class related to the non-Gith half of the character.
imakuni67 09-07-07, 09:53 AM	Githyanki get -2 Int, and both get a Dex bonus. They are more wise than intelligent, that's just how they are. How can you not use Level Adjustments? A human and a half-dragon human are NOT on equal footing. O_o?
Shiftkitty 09-07-07, 01:46 PM	I don't use LAs because life itself doesn't guarantee a level playing field and because my players have never made it an issue. They prefer to use the standard races, except for the drow campaign that is running alongside the main part of the campaign right now. Since that one is an all drow party, I don't see a need to adjust anything. Nobody has an unfair advantage, anyway.

I like what you've done here. I'm partial to the +1 LA version. I noticed you've included a lot of the psionic stuff (unfortunatly, I have very little knowledge of those supplements). Personally I'd rather not stray too far from the monstrous manual for simplicities sake. I've made a revision. I've split the two types up a bit and changed the abilities to more reflect the monstrous manual. Half-Gith Statistics Type: Humanoid (Extraplanar) Abilities: +2 Dex Speed: 30 feet Darkvision out to 60 ft. Spell Resistance: A Half-Gith has spell resistance equal to its character level +5 Special: Choose between Githyanki or Githzerai heritage Languages: Common, Gith, bonus languages: Any LA: +1 Githyanki Heritage Statistics Abilities: +2 Constitution Bonus Feat: Dodge, Martial Weapon Proficiency: Greatsword, Weapon Focus: Greatsword Favored Class: Fighter Githzerai Heritage Statistics Abilities: +2 Wisdom Bonus Feat: Dodge, Improved Unarmed Strike, Weapon Focus: Unarmed Strike Favored Class: Monk So I dropped all the psionic abilities, the closed mind bonus feat, and the favored class (any), in favor of darkvision and spell resistance. You'll also note that I dropped the skill bonuses. I hated to do this because it reflected some of the human heritage but I thought it may be necessary for balance issues. Should I put them back in? Is this a good revision? More importantly is this balanced? What do you folks think.
