| drunkman12-21-07, 01:41 PM | Hi, I thought long and hard about a powerful versatile character, and I came to the conclusion that an insectile-human (a human with the insectile template) assassin with 10 levels of ninja and 3 of a swashbuckler would be great. It's got pretty good skill points, especially since intelligence will be the ability I'll pay the most attentiontion to. It's also very stealthy thanks to its assassin spells, ki power effects, etc. And it can deal a hunk of amage in combat, not necessarily from complete reliance on the sneak attack, but also it can deal extra damage from having six arms and the swashbuckler's insightful strike skill which adds intelligence modifier to damage rolls, which is why I took three levels in swashbuckler, and my weapons will deal even more damage as I get this epic level feat called combat insight which lets me switch my strength modifier with intelligence modifier for the purpose of the damage modifier. So basically I love this characcter because you get so much out of just a high intelligence. It gives you lots of skill points, great spellcasting abilities, a high death attack DC of course, and a x2 Int damage modifier that replaces strength. The only issue is the +2 level adjustment for being an insectile creature. -2 HD aint a problem at high levels but at early levels it is. Right now, I have an ECL 3 one hit die first level swashbuckler. I can deal some damage with six arms but I have 11 hp; better have a cleric behind my back the whole way. Guess this short term setback is what I have to deal with for being that good in the long term. Now here's what my character looks like in the time being that I just made: Xensos: Insectile human swashbuckler1; ECL:3; CR:2; NE medium aberration; HD:1(11hp); Init:+5; Spd:30ft(climb:30ft); AC:17(T15, FF12); BAB/Grp:+1/+2; Atk: kuruki+7 melee(1d4+1/18-20x2) OR shortbow+6 ranged(1d8/x3); Full Atk: kuruki+7 melee(1d4+1/18-20x2) OR kuruki+5 melee(1d4+1/18-20) and 5 kurukis+5 melee(1d4/18-20x2) OR shortbow+6 ranged(1d6/x3); SA:-; SQ: darkvision 60ft, tremorsense 60ft, wide vision; SV: fort+3, ref+5, will+3; AB: Str12, Dex20, Con13, Int16, Wis16, Cha10 Skills/Feats: hide+7, move silently+7, climb+13, jump+5, bluff+4, listen+5, search+5, spot+7, open lock+5, multi-weapon fighting, weapon focus (kuruki)(B), weapon finese(B) Equipment: 6 kurukis, shortbow, 100 arrows, 25gp Any advice or suggestions? |
| G_Mancer12-21-07, 02:33 PM | you may have six arms, but the template states yonly two of them can be used with weapons. the other four(almost useless in combat) can only hold items. (a weapon or lamp or w/e) and for emphasis, i repeat : only 2 arms can use weapons/deal damage. but cool idea. it WILL suck at low lvls. you're a 1 HD monster going against ECL 3 opponents. they will hit harder than you expect (they always do) and they will last much longer than you'd want. my advice is to be ranged for a few levels. i know this isn't what you want, but it means that you'll acually live to see lvl 5 (when you'l lbe able to handle yourself without much problem) |

Anyway, savage species is outdated so not everything in it is correct, but I translated the template differently then you did, I see what you mean, again. I would have chose thri kreen, but I can't multi-class then w/o an XP penalty, unless I lower my ninja levels to level 4 and level up something else, plus thri-kreens take -2 to intelligence, or is that just a typo? Because in savage species, when I look at the thri-kreen monster ability score, the Intelligence says 10 (and the original ability scores for these mnsters are either 10 or 11), but looking at thri-kreen characters, it says -2 intelligence. Which one's right? |

Actually, it does say that directly, on page 122 under the "creating an Insectile Creature" section, in the Attacks descriptor. |
| fenderbassman200912-23-07, 01:10 AM | i love how i keep finding new races ive never heard of haha. can someone post the stats of the insectile humanoid if they have them and *removed illegal and COC violation request* sounds like a cool combo though |
| Xiuhcoatl12-23-07, 08:07 AM | Why do people insist on blatantly asking for copywrited works on the company's web forum? It would be illegal, and against the CoC, for us to post said information. Please take time to review the CoC. |
