| hangman106-27-07, 05:31 PM | It seems to me that most of the races, at least the PC races, are based around predators, cat people, lizard folk, jackals... Is there a race that anyone has developed based on the herd animals? I am imagining people that could been said to have evolved from the buffalo, or the antelope, or the gazelle maybe. My feeling is that the buffalo type people would have high con and wis, maybe a danger sense, maybe a trample ability. Nomadic and peaceful societies maybe, no high technology or magic, druids and adepts only. Any thoughts? |

Since a player can play a race with any alignment they wanted, a LG Minotaur Paladin could exsist. It would be nice so see some more humaniod farm animal races. Of course plot wise it could be some crazy mage screwin with the natural order of things. Along came the biproduct of sucessfull human/beast "merging." Crazy mages.......they just can't leave those poor poor mephits alone. |

| Clearly_Toughpick06-28-07, 10:30 AM | There's a herd race in one of the books in Philip Pullman's Hi Dark Materials trilogy (I think the second book? The Subtle Knife). They were intelligent, cultured, empathetic beings that rolled around on plains if I remember right. Anyone else remember more? |

Since you can do any lycanthrope you want, you could build were-rhinoceros, were-horses (zebra), were-bisons or any other you wish. Generally speaking, predator animals are more intelligent than most herbivore animals, so they are more likely to develop a "civilisation", or if you prefer, give the idea of a fantasy race... |
| mearrin6906-28-07, 02:07 PM | Check out Traveller's K'kree. Some people love them, some hate them. Might work out in a D&D world though. M |

Your exactly right, but given a fantasy setting, cow or sheep people might make an interesting addtion. As for people's other suggestions, they are all right on the nose, but all built on the aggressive aspects. I was thinking of a race that would be primarily peaceful, maybe something that would get pushed around by the other humanoids, sheep, cows, gazelles. Culturally, they would be more apt to run than to fight. They wouldn't really makes sense from an evolutionary standpoint, but given all the weird crap wizards make, why not. Think the Island of Doctor Moreau. |
| Inlad_The_Dashing_Paladin06-28-07, 03:07 PM | I myself have changed the Minotuar into a more peaceful, herd like race. I allways thought Minotaur were odd, there cow people, yet they eat meat! @_@ Buffalo Folk sound good to me! kinda like Minotuar, but with a smaller ELC, that way they would be playable! We should think up racial bonuses and stuff!. To Clearly_Toughpic: Yes, I have read the Subtle Knife, but i think it was the Amber Spy Glass when they appeard, can't be sure though.
