| Traike03-31-07, 04:45 PM | My friend is looking for a race that has high Cha bonus but has no LA. Does anyone know of one? Its for a Warmage. Also another person playing with me wants a good race for a cleric with no LA. Anyone got any ideas? |
| The_Shaman03-31-07, 04:55 PM | Hmm, that would suggest that an int penalty is best avoided, too... I think the lesser aasimar had a cha bonus, as does the star elf (Unapproachable East, FR setting). |
| sigma99903-31-07, 04:59 PM | Feytouched without the LA option. |
| Traike03-31-07, 06:01 PM | Were can i find thous races? |
| The_Shaman03-31-07, 07:02 PM | Lesser Aasimar: Player's Guide to Faerun (iirc) Star Elves: Unapproachable East Feytouched: Fiend Folio (mind you, if you can accept LA +1, consider aasimar, half-fey or even the draconic template from draconomicon) There might be a lesser version of the genasi that has +2 to cha, but I'm afraid I don't know it. |
| ninjarabbit03-31-07, 07:15 PM | Spellscale: Races of the Dragon |
| Onikani03-31-07, 07:31 PM | it has a +1L but Catfolk from minis handbook and RoW had +4 dex, +2 cha and some other random stuff. |
| AZNsupermarket03-31-07, 07:38 PM | the last one that needs to be mentioned is hellbred from fiend folio 2 |
| AZNsupermarket04-03-07, 08:18 PM | Can I have a list of every race with level adjustment +0 with a bonus to charisma? Check out my FAQ (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=821734) Here are all your choices from WOTC published material for +0 LA races that get a bonus to charisma: Star Elf: +2 Cha -2 Con, medium, 30 ft., otherworldly touch (su), extraplanar (su), bard, humanoid (elf), unapproachable east pg.10 Spellscale: +2 Cha -2 Con, medium, 30 ft., sorcerer and same as base creature, humanoid (dragonblood), races of the dragon pg.21 Hellbred (Spirit): +2 Cha -2 Con, medium, 30 ft, hellbound (su), spirit (su), paladin, humanoid (hellbred), Fiendish Codex II pg.78 Lesser Aasimar: +2 Wis +2 Cha, medium, 30 ft., light (sp), paladin, humanoid (planetouched), player’s guide to faerun pg.191 Venerable Dragonwrought Kobold: -4 Str +2 Dex -2 Con +3 Int +3 Wis +3 Cha, small, 30 ft., sorcerer, humanoid (kobold, reptilian, dragonblood), monter manual pg.161 and races of the dragon pg. 39 You can also add the Dragonborn of Bahamut pseudo-template without level adjustment to any of the races with a bonus to cha (beside the venerable dragonwrought kobold) and gain +2 con -2 dex, which stacks with your original ability adjustments. That may be helpful for a lot of these. Dragonborn: +2 Con -2 Dex, same as base creature, same as base creature, fighter and the base creatures, humanoid (dragonblood, same as base creature), races of the dragon pg.5 Other than that, you can just increase your age level and suffer the physical ability score penalties. |
| EternalWizard04-11-07, 06:56 PM | Feytouched without the LA option. what do u mean by "without the LA option"??? |
| lint trap04-11-07, 07:46 PM | There's the Fraal from d20 Future, but that might be far-fetched for a D&D campaign. Still, +4 to Cha and no LA. |
| Lucas Blackstone04-11-07, 09:10 PM | Lesser Aasimar seems too powerful to me compared to the average race that has +2 to a stat and -2 to another. Instead they get +2 to two abilities AND other stuff. They just struck me as weird. |
| AZNsupermarket04-12-07, 03:59 PM | Lesser Aasimar seems too powerful to me compared to the average race that has +2 to a stat and -2 to another. Instead they get +2 to two abilities AND other stuff. They just struck me as weird. Almost everyone agrees with you on that one |
| Keenath04-12-07, 04:10 PM | Lesser Aasimar seems too powerful to me compared to the average race that has +2 to a stat and -2 to another. Instead they get +2 to two abilities AND other stuff. They just struck me as weird. It's really not that big a deal. Their stats are the only thing they get, aside from a cantrip spell-like (which isn't worth much). No balance issue at all. It's the fact that the "other stuff" is more or less worthless, that makes it all work. Going by YabaTheWhat's feature point system as an example, a normal +0 race is worth between 10 and 14 points. A +2 to one stat is worth about 4 FP, and and -2 is worth -3 FP. So "balanced stats" are worth 1 or 2 FPs, depending on how many stats are being adjusted, with the other 12 or so open for other abilities. Note that Half Orcs are measured as EXTREMELY WEAK by this system, which I think everyone already knows, and half-elves come in as a step below normal, with Dwarves a step above normal. The FP system does not distinguish between mental and physical stats, contrary to the "standard" WOTC line that mental bonuses are worth more. Using this system, the +2 to two stats comes up to 8 points. A 1/day cantrip is worth 1 FP, while at-will is more variable based on duration. Light at will would be worth 8 FP. I'm not familiar with the lesser aasimar, so I can't speak to that -- is it at will or 1/day (or more per day)? If at will, the lesser aasimar is just a touch overpowered (but not badly because light isn't really all that useful); if it's 1/day they're slightly underpowered (but not badly, again). |
| sigma99904-13-07, 01:41 AM | what do u mean by "without the LA option"??? Take the option to play as Feytouched race without LA, I meant. |
| The_Shaman04-13-07, 07:54 AM | I think he means the progression article on the WotC site. |
| EternalWizard04-13-07, 08:16 AM | Where can i find that article guys? |
| The_Shaman04-13-07, 09:05 AM | You'd be surprised what wonders the google can dig up - http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/sp/20040213a |
| EternalWizard04-13-07, 01:57 PM | thnx for the link Shaman |
| Oni_Archon04-15-07, 03:09 AM | why not use the Spellscale? they have a cha bump and they make good mages....and bards... and they have that nice racial sublevel stuff....BOOOM |
| Witch04-15-07, 03:33 AM | Lesser Aasimar seems too powerful to me compared to the average race that has +2 to a stat and -2 to another. Instead they get +2 to two abilities AND other stuff. They just struck me as weird. Lesser Aasimar are fine. People get far too worked up about stat bonuses, while they're very minor. |
| The_Shaman04-15-07, 07:22 AM | Well, you're right to a point. I suppose a lesser aasimar bard is still likely to get their somewhat celestial backside handed to them by a goblin druid ; Still, they are among the more powerful races imo. |
| Witch04-15-07, 07:53 AM | That's true - but they're not worth a +1 LA any more than dwarves are :) |
