| Aleolus07-30-07, 03:00 AM | OK, I'm gonna be getting into a Ravenloft campaign soon, and I want to play a Paladin. I'm wanting a race/template combination that will give me the highest possible bonus to Charisma possible, with the fewest penalties, and no more than a +1 LA, if possible. Best I've been able to come up with is a simple Aasimar, but I'm wanting the opinions of the official WotC forum before I finalize that. |
| IdleAltruism07-30-07, 03:41 AM | A draconic star elf would be +2 str +4cha LA+1. |
| Morka07-30-07, 10:24 AM | The feytouched (summarized here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/sp/20040319a)) has +2WIS, +2CHA and wings for LA+1. |
| Aleolus07-31-07, 02:41 AM | A draconic star elf would be +2 str +4cha LA+1. Sounds good, what book is that from? |
| IdleAltruism07-31-07, 02:45 AM | Star elf is in, The unapproachable east(faerun) I think anyway. The draconic template is in the draconomicon. |
| JulesCARV07-31-07, 02:53 AM | Phrenic (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/psionicMonsters.html#phenric-creature) is good. Admittedly, LA +2, but it gives a lot of quite solid benefits. |
| Argaud07-31-07, 04:20 AM | The feytouched (summarized here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/sp/20040319a)) has +2WIS, +2CHA and wings for LA+1. Actually that is the transition level from fey-touched to half-fey. Fey-touched get no wings. The full templates are here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/sp/20040213a). Fey touched gives +2 Dexterity, -2 Constitution, +2 Charisma and a few other minor abilities for LA+1. Half-fey gives +2 Dex and Wis, -2 Con and +4 Cha and a lot of cool stuff, including wings and many slas. It is a very nice template for LA+2. |
| Morka07-31-07, 07:28 AM | D'oh. I knew it was somewhere near, just not the right donut box... |
| AZNsupermarket07-31-07, 09:23 AM | Here are all your choices from WOTC published material for +0 LA races that get a bonus to charisma: Star Elf: +2 Cha -2 Con, medium, 30 ft., otherworldly touch (su), extraplanar (su), bard, humanoid (elf), unapproachable east pg.10 Spellscale: +2 Cha -2 Con, medium, 30 ft., sorcerer and same as base creature, humanoid (dragonblood), races of the dragon pg.21 Hellbred (Spirit): +2 Cha -2 Con, medium, 30 ft, hellbound (su), spirit (su), paladin, humanoid (hellbred), Fiendish Codex II pg.78 Lesser Aasimar: +2 Wis +2 Cha, medium, 30 ft., light (sp), paladin, humanoid (planetouched), player’s guide to faerun pg.191 Venerable Dragonwrought Kobold: -4 Str +2 Dex -2 Con +3 Int +3 Wis +3 Cha, small, 30 ft., sorcerer, dragon (kobold, reptilian, dragonblood), monter manual pg.161 and races of the dragon pg. 39 You can also add the Dragonborn of Bahamut pseudo-template without level adjustment to any of the races with a bonus to cha (beside the venerable dragonwrought kobold) and gain +2 con -2 dex, which stacks with your original ability adjustments. That may be helpful for a lot of these. Dragonborn: +2 Con -2 Dex, same as base creature, same as base creature, fighter and the base creatures, humanoid (dragonblood, same as base creature), races of the dragon pg.5 Other than that, you can just increase your age level and suffer the physical ability score penalties. |
| The_Shaman07-31-07, 09:31 AM | I think a draconic template attached to a no-LA race is quite good for a LA+1. The template gives +2 to str, con and cha, as well as minor additional goodies - just what a paladin needs. The dragonblood subtype doesn't hurt much, either. |
| Cyphrus07-31-07, 09:51 AM | Personally I'm partial to a draconic lessar assiamar. Having +2str,con,wis and +4 cha. It's just beautiful. |
| AMGriffin07-31-07, 12:21 PM | Beautifully broken. But if you can get away with it, more power to ya. That character would have a pretty interesting family tree huh? |
| Kesthol08-01-07, 12:30 AM | Nice, gotta try that one after my kobold bites the dust (as he, inevitably, will). |
| Gabriel Knight5208-01-07, 01:13 AM | Fire Souled Star Elf, CON-2, CHA+6, LVL+1 (Fire Souled Template, Dragon #314 p.23) (Star Elf race, Unapproachable East p.9) |
