| TygerTyger08-16-07, 03:20 PM | The title says it all. What is the race with the highest strength bonus and an LA of +1 or, even better, no LA at all. If its a really out there race, can you please include the reference for it. Thanks in advance! |
| natzero08-16-07, 03:23 PM | dragonic half orc ;p +4 str, +2 con, +0 cha (-2 + 2) 1 nat armor and nat weapons gotta love ;p la +1 |
| Armoracia Rusticana08-16-07, 03:27 PM | Broken: Half-Minotaur or Feral or Llolth-Touched Water Orc |
| weasel008-16-07, 04:35 PM | Half-ogre +6.... well, it is 3.0 savage species |
| Istaran08-16-07, 04:43 PM | dragonic half orc ;p +4 str, +2 con, +0 cha (-2 + 2) 1 nat armor and nat weapons gotta love ;p la +1 Orc is also LA +0, so why not draconic orc? +6 str |
| natzero08-16-07, 05:04 PM | i keep forgetting orc is la +0 either way works, but half-orc wont be killed on sight by racist human guards ;p they will at least let him make it to the gate. |
| Templario08-16-07, 09:06 PM | Dragon Magazine #313 has some nice templates for you. Half-Minotaurs gtives you large size, what means... +8 STR o.O Of course it's insane, but if your DM is a liberal one... why not? :D |
| runestar08-16-07, 11:59 PM | So half-minotaur orc would give you +16str for LA+1.:D |
| AtsuiShoto08-17-07, 02:40 AM | So half-minotaur orc would give you +16str for LA+1. Um, +12, I think. +4 for the Orc and +8 for the Half-minotaur template. Of course, that's still insane, but nobody here is claiming that the Half-minotaur template isn't. Oh, you might actually be thinking of an Ogre-minotaur, which would be +16 for +2 LA and 2 MH hit dice. |
| Tedronai08-17-07, 03:34 AM | Lolth-Touched Orc, for a completely WoTC official publication +10 Str at ECL 2 (+1 LA, no HD) Of course, how in the Hell's that ever managed to happen is up to you and the DM, as Lolth-Touched is an acquired template given to those who serve the Spider Queen, protect locations 'sacred' to her, or as rewards for great service to her people (and not even drow like orcs, despite thier mutual enmity with the surface elves). |
| AtsuiShoto08-17-07, 04:13 AM | I think an Orc-minotaur is more believable, and it's +12 instead of +10, to boot. Take your first level in the Orc Paragon class to eliminate Light Sensitivity, or 3 levels for even more strength (+2, but I'd rather go for levels in Barbarian). |
| runestar08-17-07, 05:54 AM | Um, +12, I think. +4 for the Orc and +8 for the Half-minotaur template. Of course, that's still insane, but nobody here is claiming that the Half-minotaur template isn't. IIRC, +4 from orc, +4 from half-minotaur, and +8 from being bumped up to large size (since the template explicitly states that you get all the benefits of becoming large, which implies the physical stat mods as well).:P |
| Raymond_Luxury_Yacht08-17-07, 04:23 PM | Incarnate Construct Dustform Creature Orc. +8 Str. No LA. |
| Kaladon777908-17-07, 06:25 PM | IIRC, +4 from orc, +4 from half-minotaur, and +8 from being bumped up to large size (since the template explicitly states that you get all the benefits of becoming large, which implies the physical stat mods as well).:P Where does it state that you get str mod for size catogory. Also a lot of these things you guys are posting are 3.0 races or templates. Where did you see this half-minotaur? And has anybody checked to see what the LA is and if there is racial hit die? Largest Str I've seen so far is from an Orc +4str and no LA no Racial Hit Die. |

| Hariman08-18-07, 12:27 AM | Goliaths are from one of the Races books and they get +4 STR and Powerful Build. +1 LA. Powerful Build lets a creature wield weapons one size category larger than they are. So a medium creature wields large weapons without penalty. If you're looking for a minimum 16 level build: Goliath Barbarian1/Fighter4/Bard1 or Sorcerer1/(Or Duskblade 1 if your DM allows.)/Dragon Disciple10 Take Reckless Rage and Weapon Focus/Weapon Specialization/Weapon Mastery and power attack. If you can get the Mountain Rage (I might have the name wrong) Goliath Barbarian Alternate Class Feature, then you can also enlarge as part of rage for +6 (+8 with reckless rage). 22 Starting STR. (18+4) 26 after level bumps (all till level 16) 32 after reckless rage. 40 after all of the levels of Dragon Disciple. 46 after a +6 belt! 48 if you get the goliath barbarian alternate class feature. With a huge weapon. 2d8+18 while swinging a one handed weapon. 3d6+27 for a two handed weapon. And if you take a level of Exotic Weapon Master somewhere in there you get 3d6+36! Without Power Attack! This build can be made even better/worse by using a template or creature that grants more than +4. More than one of which has already been listed. |
| Lionhearted08-18-07, 11:13 AM | Goliath Barb 4/fighter 2/Frenzied Berserker 5/Primeval 7/ warshaper 2 Str 22 (start) + 5 (Levels) + 8 (Mountain rage with reckless rage) + 6 (frenzy) + 2 (Regression) + 16 (Dire wolverine primal form) + 4 (Warshaper) = 63 Str without magic items or Inherent bonus Dex: 14 (start) + 2 (regression) + 8 (Dire wolverine primal form) = 22 Dex Con 20 (Start) + 2 (regression) + 12 (dire wolverine primal form) + 6 (Rage with reckless rage) + 4 (Warshaper) = 44 con Not to mention x3 powerattack, supreme cleave, scent, immunity vs crits and sneak attack, morphic weapons, and invincibility during your rage. Since Primeval forms work exactly like Lycanthropes you can convince your DM to houserule them as Hybrid forms. Dont forget to get Righteous wrath from BoED to keep your frenzy under control |
| Lionhearted08-18-07, 11:48 AM | Pawn of Mindflayers: Voidmind Minotaur, MM3 p.188, Dragonlance Campaign Setting p.42, STR+8, DEX+0, INT+0, WIS+0, CON+2, CHA-4, LVL+1 What? Voidmind has LA +3... |
| Hariman08-18-07, 12:19 PM | Goliath Barb 4/fighter 2/Frenzied Berserker 5/Primeval 7/ warshaper 2 Str 22 (start) + 5 (Levels) + 8 (Mountain rage with reckless rage) + 6 (frenzy) + 2 (Regression) + 16 (Dire wolverine primal form) + 4 (Warshaper) = 63 Str without magic items or Inherent bonus Dex: 14 (start) + 2 (regression) + 8 (Dire wolverine primal form) = 22 Dex Con 20 (Start) + 2 (regression) + 12 (dire wolverine primal form) + 6 (Rage with reckless rage) + 4 (Warshaper) = 44 con Not to mention x3 powerattack, supreme cleave, scent, immunity vs crits and sneak attack, morphic weapons, and invincibility during your rage. Since Primeval forms work exactly like Lycanthropes you can convince your DM to houserule them as Hybrid forms. Dont forget to get Righteous wrath from BoED to keep your frenzy under control OK, I didn't know about Primeval forms. But I didn't include Frenzied Berserker because the majority of DMs don't allow it. |
| Mr_Teapot08-18-07, 02:28 PM | Where did you see this half-minotaur? And has anybody checked to see what the LA is and if there is racial hit die? It's from Dragon 313. There's no Monstrous hit dice: it's a template, not a race. And it is really listed at LA +1, but with how many advantages it gives you, and the fact that the writeup has some other typos from where it was copied and pasted from the half-Ogre in the same article, it's clear that the LA +1 is a mistake. I know from practice that it's too powerful, I played one. |
| TygerTyger08-18-07, 04:02 PM | Gotta love how a question about the strongest race with LA+1 or less turns into a bunch of builds. :D That's the net for you. Thanks for the tips folks. For the record, the character its for is actually a Cleric / Crusader / Ruby Knight Vindicator. I just wanted him to be a really strong character. :) |

But you just asked for a race, and I love posting my "Glass Cannon" Half Dragon Reckless Rager. |
